If you are like me, you believe that any bike can be made better with a handlebar bag.  If you are like me, you don't think a bike's handling is ruined when you carry a few pounds in a handlebar bag.

If you have a stripped down road bike, it might be a touch difficult to mount a proper front rack as a handlebar bag support.  If you are like me, you know that an F15 front rack makes it easy to run a handlebar bag Link to F15 front rack

I've been running a beausaged Baggins boxy rando bag on one of my stripped down road bikes.  I recently upgraded that bag to a Sackville sapphire.  So, now I have a choice:  sell my Baggins bag to YOU, OR buy another F15 and run the Baggins on another bike.  You decide!

Here's a link to a flickr photo album of the garage project I executed to make my Baggins bag a lot more boxy with a custom built front rail that bolts to the F15:  https://www.flickr.com/photos/45758191@N04/albums/72157647604128426

For sale is the bag and the custom front rail.  You need to supply the F15 front rack.  $50 shipped.  If you don't want it, I'll probably buy another F15 and I'll use it down the road.

Do you know if the newer Riv Barsack with the F-15 mount bounces around much?
Thanks in advance
Jon

I’ve found it to be surprisingly solid. I attribute that to the rack. The rack looks like it should be flexy, but it’s very stout.

+1 to the F15 being very solid. I have one that I occasionally use on my Mercian, and it does the job very well. I almost prefer it to the Acorn/Marks's Rack setup on my Atlantis.

Hey Bill,

I’ve been wanting to try one of these. Glad to buy yours and pick up an F15 from Riv next time I stop by.

PayPal ok?

Best,
Reed

Yes, they are quite stable and beautifully made
like you’d expect from Nitto.

Best,
Richard

And now that Bill's bag is off to a new home, I may as well use the thread to put in a plug for the BarSack. I love mine, and it's a great way to Brevetize a bike that won't easily take a front rack. It's super easy to quickly add/remove the rack and bag.

Looks like Rivendell is phasing them out. Get the blue one!

How do the F-15/bag combination affect the handling and stability of the bike?  I bought an Acorn bag for my Hunqapillar last year and found that it turned that platform of stability into a kind of squirrely ride, even to the point that I could no longer ride hands off.

I guess it’s going to depend greatly on the Bike, the size of the Bike, and the load. Here’s my experience:
I use the bag/rack combo on my Mercian Superlight, which is a size 63 and acts as my Go Fast Roadeo wannabe. The bike has a waaaaay huge headtube, and has been known to shimmy a bit on long, wild descents. It also has very narrow handlebars.

With the BarSack and a 3-4lb load, the shimmy on descents seems to abate. Steering is a bit more ponderous, but not so bad that it’s top of mind. Would I race a crit with the bag? It’s a silly question, but no, I wouldn’t.

Front loads have never bothered me on my Atlantis, FWIW.

John,

My experience with the bar sack as well. Used it for a bit on my Atlantis but switched to baskets for more carrying capacity on two of my Rivs.

The bar sack and F-15 rack have been dormant for a year or so. If anyone is interested in purchasing an olive green one let’s talk.

Thanks very much,
Richard
