I've been alerted to a clean-looking Heron (59 cm ST) on the auction site; I'll watch closely, and thought others might be interested.

I have also been watching it, I would love love this bike but I am at 5 already. I dont have a "go fast" bike in the stable right now though, but that excuse wont fly with my wife, I dont think at least.....

i had a similiar first generation 57cm Heron Tourer. as a loaded tourer it handled well and was quite comfortable. i never used it with less than 4 panniers, rear rack/bag and front handlebar bag so i cant comment on how it rode unloaded

it did have a couple shortcomings. first, a modern loaded tourer doenst need horizontal dropouts. second, the fork crown could fit a 700x38mm tire but wasnt wide enough to accomadate 50mm fenders while pinching SKS 45mm fenders

i sold the 57cm and bought a used second generation Heron tourer (Wayfarer i believe) which has vertical dropouts and a wider/stouter fork crown. it hangs on the wall unbuilt so i cant compare but it might be called into action this summer

This one on the auction block is very similar to my 60.  I love the bike, currently in the process of building int back up.   The silver is a pretty and understated color.  For the interested, some shots of the Heron rebuild project:

The Heron is the bike that brought me back to cycling (via Rivendell) in about 1998.  I'll always have a sentimental place in the garage for mine.

What a badge!  Yeah, I am watching this auction, and hoping for a financially reasonable outcome; the purchase isn't what I might call "necessary," as I am committed to a Sam build already with Riv!  But if this Heron is a good deal . . . .
