Covers stopped working but sidelights , headlights still work , so changed Relay , still no joy. Disconnected motor for covers at rod , headlights still all ok & sidelights.
Ignition on but engine not running all fine on the light front , start engine and there is a noise (sounds like  coming from engine , def. not from motor for headlights) , I have tried disconnecting cables individually from relay , have even removed relay completely and noise still there , but only when engine running ?????

If the noise is still there when the flap motor is unplugged then I can’t see how they would be related. Try connecting a power source to the flap motor direct to see if it works at all. On my saloon the flap motor is triggered from the lighting circuit. When I had a earth short in one of the rear light clusters it blew the fuse and the flaps closed, refusing to open again. I ‘fixed it’ by unplugging the flap motor and reversing the plug to trick the flaps open. It got me home.

I would tend to agree with Chris, i think the 2 are unrelated.

Do you have a meter you can check the voltages on the flap motor with ?

Can you describe the noise the engine is making ?

Sorry, getting about 11.7v. Noise is strange sound , hard to explain, but def. not coming from motor.

That is correct, that’s so the flaps will close when you turn the lights off even if the ignition is off.

On the 3 wires going to the motor you should have power on one of them, no power on another and one that is an earth (so no power on there either).
When you turn the lights on the power should switch to the other wire on the motor.
If so the motor has died, probably the modified contact inside.

Otherwise, go back to the relay and look for the wire on pin 85, see if that has 12V when the lights are on and nothing when the lights are off

I’ve attached the wiring diagram but be aware that the diodes are sometimes connected to main and dip rather than main and side, it depends if the builder wanted the headlight flaps to drop on sidelights, or for Dimdip on the headlights.

Managed to get things working again , turned out was a dodgy bullet connector on the 3rd wire which is not in the std. wiring to the cover motor, this was on other side from relay on wiring up to motor .
Never mind , another Quantum lesson , thanks for advice guys.
