There are 2 on the website one at £2000 and one at £4000, which bits justify the difference.
Also a couple on ebay around £1 - 2000.
What do I look for in a good one other than 12 months MOT.

They used to be expensive cars! Mine cost me 8 grand to build originally (one of the ones on ebay now). However they have since seemed to 'fall out of favour' alongside the rise of the seven rep. So people seem to be just trying to get the best price they can for them. Personally - although I am sure that the 4 grand car is gorgeous, it is made from exactly the same kit as the 1 - 2 grand cars..... so you pays you money and you take your choice I reckon. I am currently in a bit of a dilemma as I have been thinking about buying my old one back - however there is a little damage to the passenger door so i priced one up at quantum. My god a door is expensive!!! So expensive I reckon I would be better off buying a different car to be honest...

I think the main problem is there are now plenty of MX5’s and MGF’s around for people who want an open topped sports car.
There wasn’t anything similar when the 2+2 first came out.

Nowadays 99% of people are happy with a production car rather than something with 1980’s parts underneath it.

Whereas the 7 market are all kit cars, there’s not really a production option, if you can’t afford a real Caterham you buy a clone.

I’m sure Eddie could repair the door for a lot less than a new one from Quantum.

Eddie who? The door has a load of cracks in the gel coat - its not a simple ding that needs to be filled and sorted.

Eddie Ruskin, I’m sure he will be along here later.
I’d send you his email privately but Google groups is now filtering emails out of the messages so i can’t see yours.
Send me an email to j...@quantums.info and i’ll let you have it.

You’d have a job to find something in fibreglass that Eddie can’t repair.

I think you've hit the nail on the head as the saying goes, however I can see the possibility in a few years that new cars will again become expensive, with the consequence that used cars will also be more expensive - due to the down sizing and closure of assembly plants when the demand fell. This effect may be lessened by the far eastern, Indian, Chinese manufacturing trying to gain a market. The knock-on may be that kit car values rise, but I can't envisage a return to the heydays of the 70's and 80's! There are other factors, not least the ease of finding donor parts (in the good old days) when you just simply went into a breakers yard and it was all there - not quite the same now - Ah, nostalgia ain't what it used to be!

I agree, Eddie can fix ANYTHING. Smile
If your talking about the white 2+2 on ebay with the damaged door then that he can fix that no problem, at a fraction of the price of a new door!

If it is that one then that is a easy repair, even i could repair that.
Grind out all the cracks, a bit of resin and maybe matting if it’s a big area, then build up with gel coat and carefully flat back level.
Check on the inside of the door and see if any of the matting has delaminated, if so grind back and put on new matting.

Also, the car is near Bristol which is where Eddie is, ask him if he can have a look at it.

well you might just be.. I must admit to quite a feeling of sentimentality towards that car as I built it to start with and then drove it down to the South of France a fortnight after completion..... memories :)

Hi Guys

If anyone has a door beyond repair I have some spare ones. I'm not in a hurry to sell as I intend to keep them just incase but they are there for emergencies. Also a boot lid for a 2+2 in red which I do not need.

George

Im confident prices will rise again within 5 years or so, at launch these cars were stylish and contemporary, ahead of their time almost, then from about 10 years ago they fell into that not new not classic teritoty, but now they offer something many others can't, an MX5 is similar, an MGF is similar but neither look like a true classic whereas the 2+2 does, to me it looks like another interpretation of the classic lotus elan, again a car that for many reasons will hold its value, 10 years from now MGFS especially will look dated and no doubt rusty, ours stand every chance of looking factory freash indefinitely, especially since most of us still like to tinker,
Each time i walk towards my car across a carpark i fall in love with it all over again, i can't help but think those responsible for styilng it did a fantastic job especially since it wasn't styled by a big automotive design studio, its the pretty cars that historically do get remembered in time and will catch on price wise, take a look back through history, invest in a 2+2, its a dead cert
