Hi everyone,

I would like to use hbqt and have installed the code via svn co http://svn.code.sf.net/p/qtcontribs/code/trunk /home/anthony/hbqt
I have a new version of harbour installed, built and working.

I'm afraid I dont know how to build everything, what settings to use etc..

Could someone please help me..

I'm using LUbuntu 14.10 64bit.
I'v installed the latest QT (not sure it is needed)..

I tried the following...

hbmk2 qtcontribs.hbp

hbmk2: Building sub-project (level 2): debug/hwgdebug.hbp
Package gtk+-2.0 was not found in the pkg-config search path.
Perhaps you should add the directory containing `gtk+-2.0.pc'
to the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable
No package 'gtk+-2.0' found
hbmk2[hwgdebug]: Error: Working directory cannot be created:
                 ../../lib/linux/gcc/.hbmk/linux/gcc
anthony@anthony-H97M-D3H:~/hbqt$ hbmk2 qtcontribs.hbp

Hi, Anthony.

Good work. You are better tester. ;o)

Now,

delete line "{unix}-cflag=`pkg-config --cflags gtk+-2.0`" in hwgdebug.hbp and try again.

Good luck.

Hi Alex,

I hope you can help me get this running, im really excited to get it all working!!

I also had to use "sudo" to run hbmk2 as I did not have permission to create the folder below.
hbmk2: Building sub-project (level 2): debug/hwgdebug.hbp
hbmk2[hwgdebug]: Error: Working directory cannot be created:
../../lib/linux/gcc/.hbmk/linux/gcc

That solved that problem but the following happens now:
I checked, I dont have a glib.h anywhere in harbour or qtcontribs... and I have a very recent harbour

hbmk2 qtcontribs.hbp
hbmk2: Building sub-project (level 2): debug/hwgdebug.hbp
hbmk2: Compiling...

Hi, Anthony.
can you share your experiences for other user with your script for linux?

Hi Anthony,
on QtContribs forum, I have posted some threads.
I think this can help you in some way: "QTContribs with QT 5.3 in Ubuntu
14.04"; I have also write a simple bash and some QtContribs missing code.
In my experience, I have created /home/myDirectory with (at least) chmod
777 (or other solution, ie a new group with right permissions) and I
have put
/home/myDirectory/harbour/*
/home/myDirectory/harbour/addons/ all qtcontribs material

But remember: Lubuntu it's the "small" distribution; so, perhaps,
something lib is missing: I'm not sure.

Hi Anthony,
only for a test (to prevent unwanted software installation) try to
comment debug/hwgdebug.hbp into qtcontribs.hbp and compile QtContribs

Anthony.

My first advise is wrong. Return that if deleted. gtk2 are used in code.

Now,

install packet gtk2-devel from repository.

Let's do it together.

I did the following:
sudo apt-get install libgtk2.0-dev

harbour is in /home/anthony/harbour
hbqt is in/home/anthony/hbqt

hbmk2 qtcontribs.hbp

so I ran it as sudo
sudo /home/anthony/harbour/bin/linux/gcc/hbmk2 qtcontribs.hbp

This it what I get:

/home/anthony/harbour with all Harbour

and

/home/anthony/harbour/addons within this folder you put al QtContribs
material

and in this folder I have debug, hbdbu etc folders..
I have and qt4 installed via repo, and I downloaded the latest qt5.3.2 which is in folder /home/anthony/Qt5.3.2
I think some environment variables are not set corrrectly....

Yes, I downloaded harbour and build it.
this is my version:

Thats what was outputted by hbmk2.
this is what I got in the terminal.

n.b. I have used 32bit version. Probably, on 64bit are there problems? I
don't know.

I modified the files as per above post. (see attatched files)
hbqt_common.hbm and something to hbqt/hbqt_common.hbc

Using the scripts attatched libhbqtcore.a and libhwgdebug.a are created in /home/anthony/harbour/lib/linux/gcc/ :)
However nothing seems to be created for hbide..

If I try compile hbdbu I get the followijng..
/usr/bin/ld: cannot find -lgtqtc
/usr/bin/ld: cannot find -lhbqtwidgets
/usr/bin/ld: cannot find -lhbqtgui
/usr/bin/ld: cannot find -lhbqtnetwork

I think im close now guys...
I DONT understand why it is such a problem with getting it to run on linux :(
Surely the guys doing this would make it easier..

In buildhbqt.sh, redirect the command like this

hbmk2 -trace -info qtcontribs.hbp  -pic -$LLD_LIBRARY_PATH 2>&1 |tee -a jog.txt
and
hbmk2 hbide.hbp 2>&1 |tee -a jog.txt

and you will have a more complete log, with what is happening during hbide build

/usr/bin/ld: cannot find -lgtqtc
/usr/bin/ld: cannot find -lhbqtwidgets
/usr/bin/ld: cannot find -lhbqtgui
/usr/bin/ld: cannot find -lhbqtnetwork
before building hbide, try to refresh ld by:
sudo ldconfig

For gtqtc, the correct line ought to be:
-gtqtc
instead of
-lgtqtc

I understand, but it's necessary to know if it's the reason of the messages
After, it will be necessary to search why these libs can't build.
And for that, I haven't been able to find why.

Hi, Anthony.

I used standard compilation directories /usr/... and not have such problems. Where are located compiled libs? Try found it.

Try understand basic principles and you will win it.

hdmk2 is utility like linux make. In .hbc-files wrote pathes for working it.

Now, not
enough info to understand where problem.

May be you give more info?

I have great respect for harbour and would love to use it for the next 20 years. I need to develop android apps now and I tried to get harbour working with qt to do this.
Unfortunately I can't, even with some people trying to help me . It's a pity that the developers of hbqt don't care about us Linux users....

Because of this I have to now use android studio for the next few years and not harbour.
This is a shame. Perhaps this situation / attitude from the hbqt developers will change in the future. Harbour and qt are cross platform after all...

Hi, Anthony.
You don't understand.
Harbour and HBQT are opensource projects. This mean, that who want and can - those brings his contribution in project.
And you may help to project by testing and analyzing it code.

Problems in Harbour existed - read
Harbour forum.

In HBQT,
practically, one main developer - Pritpal.

You may join to comunity.

Hi Anthony

I have been using clipper since clipper 5 in 1991.

A couple of year earlier when I started with Clipper in 1993.

Harbour is rock solid and I never have any problems at clients from the stability of my programs.

No doubt about this.

I have great respect for harbour and would love to use it for the next 20 years. I need to develop android apps now and I tried to get harbour working with qt to do this.

A wise decision. You can exploit the knowledge gained in last 23 years, and with most rewarding results.

Unfortunately I can't, even with some people trying to help me . It's a pity that the developers of hbqt don't care about us Linux users....

I am sorry you could not. May be a couple of issues are responsible for that. Tried to fix them in r384. Let us know if you succeeded this time.

Because of this I have to now use android studio for the next few years and not harbour.

Probably it will end-up as bad decision. I tried Android and gave-up just after first app which never went to production. May be I am not intelligent enough.

This is a shame. Perhaps this situation / attitude from the hbqt developers will change in the future. Harbour and qt are cross platform after all...

May be you are right. But 'shame' on who ?

HbQt was kicked out of Harbour repository for insane reason. I carried out the burden of its development solely at my own. As said many times, I am only a Windows guy, have never worked with Linux or MacOS. So my knowledge about those OS is severely limited. I cannot help even if I wish to. Whatever changes I introduce for *nixes, are solely based on others observations. Fortunately those changes, almost all, are BUILD orineted. Gurus on Linux seems not interested in HbQt, sadly !

As you are a Linux guy, I invite you to submit changes leading to proper implementation. After all, HbQt is open source, no ?

Come on, instead of spilling a "shame" on HbQt, be a contributor to the project. I am sure you will not be disappointed.

Hi Pritpal,

I have contributed code in the past, clipper and Visual Objects.
You are right, perhaps I should give some of my time to help others...

I'm a single developer and my wife helps me in my business, I suppose I have been focused on making money too much, but as a small company it is harder, but I have more freedom...

I have to finish my current project, +- 2 months work and in this time ill have a serious think about helping...

It is nice to know that you would like to work with others.

What was the reason hbqt was thrown out of harbour?

Regards
Anthony
