I'm looking for people to try out my very, very basic QLab Controller for Android and give some feedback. Here is the link to opt-in to the Alpha. As I mentioned it is very, very basic right now, with 6 buttons: Go, Next, Previous, Pause, Resume and Panic. It is also shows the currently selected cue's name and type. Also I know the interface is very dull and unappealing but I would like to get it functionally working before I design/implement a more attractive layout.

Good morning Joel,

I think it's so cool that you're making this! The one thing I just realized I have to ask is for you to find a name that doesn't use "QLab". I got a stern lecture about this from our attorney once; we have to be careful about it or risk losing the trademark altogether.

If you'd like to use "QLab" in a description of how it works and what it does that's fine, and I can send you the little chunk of legal disclaimer you'd  include in that case so the lawyer-types stay happy.

Thanks for understanding, and sorry it took me a few days to mention it, it's been rather crazy here since launch.

Hmm....Now to think of a new name...But I'd be interested in getting a copy of the legal disclaimer you mentioned.

Nothing with “QLab” I’m afraid.

Haha idk I feel like that would still be too similar. I've been trying to think of a new name for a while thinking something like qController or something like that with just the 'Q' in front of it.

QinaQ (pronounced "cuinack") - an acronym for "QinaQ is not a QLab-controller" ;)

Great initiative! So much easyer than messing around with one of the OSC based build your own controller apps.

Got to love recursive acronyms.

I think you should call it Gulab Remote as that ties in with Android OS version naming (apparently gulab is a popular sweet…)

Gulab Jamon (possibly an anglicized spelling) is a dessert found in Indian and Pakistani cuisine and is absolutely delicious.

Used the app (now named qController, keep that name!) today. Works ok. Couldn't figure out what the "preview" button is supposed to do. Auditioning?

One wish: Please implement Bonjour or some other network dicovery magic. Ain't nobody got time for reading and writing IPs in our day and age! ;)

Now: If Fig53 could please port QLab to Windows or Linux, I'd be one happy camper. Yeah... Peace in the Middle East and monarchy in France before that... I know.

The preview button is the same as pressing command-v in QLab it basically is like pressing Go but not advancing the playhead. I've gotten many of requests for a "scanning" feature so it is most likely the next thing I'll implement.

I've finally got around to working on this app again now that the fall semester is done I have a lot more free time. I have just submitted an update that adds the ability to scan for machines that have QLab workspaces running on them. I still need to work on a couple things for the scanning feature such as displaying the computer name instead of the IP and removing entries from the "discovered" list if the QLab is closed.

I tried your app on a show this Sunday, Joel. Simple, but still brilliant Android alternative!

I see that you now have implemented one of the things I was going to suggest (save IP and scan for Qlab  instances on the local network). Great!

This time we used Qlab for displaying still images during a concert. Images for each song were stored in a group with automatic switching, so we only used qcontroller between each song. That means that it went 5-10 minutes between each operation and I found that qcontroller sometimes lost the connection to Qlab. It was easilly solved by going back and then connect again, but still a bit cubersome. Maybe som kind of keep-alive is needed? I ran qcontroller on a Galaxy Tab and used a dedicated wifi router.

Another suggestion: Is it possible to also display the name of the current que (the playhead)? With our setup, the selected que is the next in line, and it is sometimes confusing when that is all you see.

Keep up the good work!

Thanks for the feedback, I have encountered that issue of "disconnecting" I think it has something to do with the phone going to sleep. I also can see the point of wanting to see the details of the playhead cue vs the selected cue and I've been thinking of making it a selectable option through a toggle or something.

i know i'm a bit late to the party but i'm running an old os x, 10.7.5 with qlab 2.3.9. is this version supported?

I am not sure, I don't have a copy of QLab 2.3.9 running to be able to test but if the OSC control/format hasn't changed it theoretically should work..

Hello All

QLab 2 did not use OSC, so I don't believe this will work.
