Short version: Is there an equivalent to "Video output for all cues" on the paid version?

Long version:

OK, I'm a pretty new QLab user. I've been using the free version, but rented the full video package for a day to try out some features (namely, camera cues). Using Mac Sequoia 15.5, QLab 5.4.11, with a temporary video license.

I'm using QLab to run some video behind a live band. I have a single stage set to output to a single display. At home, I plug an external monitor into my MacBook and send the video to that while I'm working and tweaking things. I take my MacBook to rehearsal, and connect it to a TV so the band can see the video. I take my MacBook to shows, and connect it to whatever system they have at the theatre.

On the free version, I am limited to one output, so when I change locations, all I have to do is update the video to go File > Workplace Settings > Video > Video Outputs > Video output for all cues. With the license, I can have multiple outputs, and that option is no longer available.

I can't do a "select all" and change the I/O settings, as that's not available to a batch. Right now, I have to either do them one at a time, or I can select each type of cue and do them as a batch (all video cues, all camera cues). Both solutions are tedious.

I've Googled, but can find no help.

Is there an equivalent to "Video output for all cues" on the paid version?

In settings Video you change the device that your stage outputs to in the output routing tab:

It's documented in the manual here:

Thanks. I've read through that, and can't find the relevant answer. This is the section more specific to my issue:

https://qlab.app/docs/v5/video/video-output/#using-video-without-a-video-license

Here, it specifically mentions how to do it without a license, but I can't find any mention of how to do it with a license.

Thanks so much. For the "Output Routing" screenshot above, that doesn't seem to change the output of the cue, no matter which route I select. (Same with "Video Outputs" and "Output Devices.") (I've attached my screen, that shows the two test routes (Home is home, Alstead is the rehearsal space, and the built in display, which I would use working at a coffee shop or something with no external display.) To actually route the cue , I have to select the cue, then go the I/O tab and select a stage from the dropdown list for "Video Outputs."

I feel like there's something really obvious I'm missing here.

I think you have misunderstood the full QLab 5 video routing.

For your purposes you only need one stage and one route e.g

Here is your 1 stage set to a resolution of 1920 x 1200 (to change this resolution use the EDIT button) It is routed in the Stage Editor to an output route named output

Screenshot 2025-06-15 at 01.24.12.png
Here is that output route and the output route editor where you set the size of the output route

Screenshot 2025-06-15 at 01.26.34.png

Note the Scaling Mode in the output route editor.. In the Screenshot above, I am routing to a 4K monitor so my WUXGA output 1920x1200 is scaled to fill the 4K monitor, and this is indicated in the route resolution column.

In this screenshot I change the output routing's device to a WUXGA monitor (1920x1200)

Screenshot 2025-06-15 at 01.33.44.png

Now the device resolution is the same as the Stage and output route resolution and no scaling is taking place as you can see by looking at the route resolution column.

Interesting. So, if I'm understanding, I can stick with one video output, assign that to all the cues, then edit that output each time I connect to a different display?

What I was trying to do was save the info for each display, then choose which one I'm using at any time. Kinda like what I might do with multiple printers attached to a computer. (I come from a print background.)

I'll try taking that approach and see if I have better luck.

Again, thank you so much for your help. I'm slowly realizing that this is an insanely powerful piece of software, and I've tackled about 0.0001% of what it can do.

Thanks!
Andy

Exactly. You never change the routing of the cues, only the device for the  output routing.

. I'm slowly realizing that this is an insanely powerful piece of software, and I've tackled about 0.0001% of what it can do.

Indeed. To see the advantage of changing only the output routing. Create a second stage and edit it to be 400x225 and route it to your output. In the warping tab of the stage editor, position this smaller stage as a PIP wherever you want it, e.g. Top right corner of the output.

Make a camera cue and route the cue to your second stage.

Play one of your original video cues,, then this new camera cue and you should have a full screen video with a PIP of the camera feed.

Now, by changing the output device in the output routing tab of settings video you can display the same video set up, on a 4K tv, a 1024x768  monitor, , a 1920x1200 projector, and the video output will scale to present exactly the same image on all these devices.

Add a third stage, size it 1920x300 and position it in the warp tab to sit at the bottom of the output route. Send a single line text cue to this stage.

You can assign layers to your stages so the lower text area (stage 3 layer 3 ) and the PIP(stage 2 layer2)  are always in front of the full screen video (stage 1 layer1 )

This can be expanded to many stages, e.g projecting on a house with different stages for each door and window. The cues route to the relevant stage, so you might have a 100 cues each  routed to one of 10 stages.

Imagine how complicated it would be to individually change the video patch  of each cue to a different device. But simply by changing the device in settings/video/ output route  you can project all these cues on a device of any resolution in exactly the same geometric relationship, just by changing a single pop up menu.
