Hello all,

I am planning to develop a GUI that works on Windows, Linux, Android & iOS.

Is this going to be a good option to develop a cross platform GUI like that?

THanks

Pyjs won't help you build native GUIs for Android and iOS.  It could help you make a web app which you display to the user through a custom browser.  There are lots (tens, hundreds?) of technology stacks that could do the same.

Hey Greg,

The way the app currently work is, there's a C++ MFC app that we load into a web browser and display to the user. We support Internet Explorer, Firefox & Chrome. The problem with this design is that, the MFC thingy is not supported in Linux or Android or iOS. So that's why we are planning to develop a GUI that can be shown on different browsers in different platforms.

Our priorities for this are,
1. Open source, with no license req's.
2. Easy to develop within a short time frame.
3. Something that's supported for a long time, and not a tool that's going to be discontinued soon.

Do you have any suggestions?

I appreciate your response.

Thanks

Hi Dipu,

I would highly recommend Xamarin but it fails your first requirement. If you can get past the license requirement I don't think you will find a more advanced and cross platform solution. Definitely worth the price. (If it makes a difference the underlying frameworks are all open source.)

Sounds like you are already familiar with Microsoft tools so you will have a minor advantage working with mono (which is what Xamarin is built around).

Another advantage is you get near to native (or faster) performance on all platforms.

You should give kivy a try.

Does Kivy uses Python?

Please continue this conversation off the pyjs-users list,
it was OT from the beginning and is becoming more and more so ...

Thanks,
Steve
