For the past 48 hours, I have been having issues resolving.  Come to find out, Suddenlink seems to be doing weird things.  This is when I have my DNS resolver set to 8.8.8.8.  It will also regularly take 10-40 seconds to load a web page.  Is Suddenlink messing with my connection or is this a more legitimate issue?

ping -c 3 www.google.com
PING www.google.com (66.76.246.246) 56(84) bytes of data.
64 bytes from speedtestLR.suddenlink.net (66.76.246.246): icmp_seq=1 ttl=58 time=23.7 ms

ping -c 3 www.google.com
PING www.google.com (66.76.246.245) 56(84) bytes of data.
64 bytes from cdm-66-76-246-245.tyrd.static.suddenlink.net (66.76.246.245): icmp_seq=1 ttl=58 time=29.5 ms

I found today similar issues with Suddenlink while tracking down peculiar traffic going to suddenlink IP addresses. I was using OpenDNS at the time and found this response for google.com resolution:

$ host google.com 208.67.222.222
Using domain server:
Name: 208.67.222.222
Address: 208.67.222.222#53
Aliases:

google.com has address 208.180.176.181
google.com has address 208.180.176.188
google.com has address 208.180.176.175
google.com has address 208.180.176.189
google.com has address 208.180.176.176
google.com has address 208.180.176.182
google.com has address 208.180.176.183
google.com has address 208.180.176.178
google.com has address 208.180.176.185
google.com has address 208.180.176.179
google.com has address 208.180.176.186
google.com has address 208.180.176.184
google.com has address 208.180.176.187
google.com has address 208.180.176.180
google.com has address 208.180.176.177
google.com has IPv6 address 2607:f8b0:4000:800::200e
google.com mail is handled by 20 alt1.aspmx.l.google.com.
google.com mail is handled by 10 aspmx.l.google.com.
google.com mail is handled by 30 alt2.aspmx.l.google.com.
google.com mail is handled by 40 alt3.aspmx.l.google.com.
google.com mail is handled by 50 alt4.aspmx.l.google.com.

As can be seen, Suddenlink IP addresses were given. So I decided to try google's public DNS as well:

$ host google.com 8.8.8.8
Using domain server:
Name: 8.8.8.8
Address: 8.8.8.8#53
Aliases:

google.com has address 208.180.176.183
google.com has address 208.180.176.175
google.com has address 208.180.176.176
google.com has address 208.180.176.184
google.com has address 208.180.176.186
google.com has address 208.180.176.188
google.com has address 208.180.176.185
google.com has address 208.180.176.182
google.com has address 208.180.176.181
google.com has address 208.180.176.178
google.com has address 208.180.176.179
google.com has address 208.180.176.177
google.com has address 208.180.176.187
google.com has address 208.180.176.180
google.com has address 208.180.176.189
google.com has IPv6 address 2607:f8b0:4000:801::200e
google.com mail is handled by 20 alt1.aspmx.l.google.com.
google.com mail is handled by 30 alt2.aspmx.l.google.com.
google.com mail is handled by 40 alt3.aspmx.l.google.com.
google.com mail is handled by 10 aspmx.l.google.com.
google.com mail is handled by 50 alt4.aspmx.l.google.com.

Also Suddenlink IP addresses.

To fix the problem (for now) I switched to another public DNS provider and it yielded IP addresses that belong to Google (according to whois).

I am not the authority but I think these IPs belong to suddenlink but are used by Google to serve traffic at edge.

Hi Shen,

I believe you are correct. I've since learned that it may be the Google global cache and ECS at work.
