Hello! I have a very mission-critical project I'm working on! When I go to make edits, nothing I try to delete deletes. I do it in the normal way...make a selection, then press the backspace key just as I always have, but nothing clears. If I undo the operation, it says "undo clear" but nothing clears! The proper tracks are selected in the track table, but that's not helping. I've tried all the edit modes as well, but to no avail. Any help anyone could give would be appreciated. Thanks!

The first thing that comes to mind is that your Track View selector is set to something other than Waveform. You might have it set to volume, pan, mute or whatever but it needs to be set to waveform in order for audio to be edited. LMK if that helps.

Hi Jesse,
I just had this happen yesterday again.
turn off VO & back on that sometimes clears up things.
Hide all the tracks then only show the tracks to edit.
What I always do if its a load of tracks is to make a group out of the tracks first, I use the pt default of  Mix-edit group.
When that group is active and it still don't edit relaunch the session.
If that  don't work quit pt and re launch.
Last ditch restart the box! :)

Ok! Stupid question! Where do you change that? I'm looking everywhere and can't find the track view selector. Thanks!

Chuck, I've tried all those things. I've had this session at the office, and now trying to edit it at home. Both places have the same results.

Hi Jesse,
Have you tried to save session copy.
its under the file menu.
Thats where you export or  save session copy in.
You can check to only export selected tracks and its audio and basically  it exports the session to where you choose.
this save session copy in is used to  make a independent copy of the pt session to send out to other studios.
Then what i do is to quit pt and find that save copy in session and launch it.
Or just make a new pt session and try importing session data from that session.
Also Have you tried "committing" those tracks in that session?
BTW wave form and volume will be found in the edit window.
Talk soon

I didn't try that. Thanks for the suggestion! I found the track view selector right after I posed the question. Even that didn't work. Idk what the prob with the file is. It's lame!

Hi Jesse,

Truly, it could be a number of things and it's difficult to troubleshoot when one has to assume that a number of other things are set up correctly. For example, if "either "Link Timeline and Edit selection" or "Edit Selection Follows Track Selection" under the Options menu are not checked, it can cause a situation like yours. Also, if an insertion point doesn't exist within the track you're trying to edit (as might be the case if Edit and Track selection aren't linked), you could be editing an entirely different track and not be aware of it.

Have you tried scrubbing within the track? Is "Insertion Follows Scrub" checked in the Preferences? When scrubbing, do you hear audio? Are you only editing a single track or a few tracks at the same time? Are the tracks shown or are they hidden? I suppose if you saw the Track View Selector, the track would, of course, have to be shown but, you understand, I'm grasping at straws here…. Let me know.

All that stuff is actually checked the way it's supposed to be. I can mute, solo, and do all those things in the track. If by scrubbing, you mean moving the shuttle, the answer is yes. I don't have a control surface, so I'm limited to scrubbing with the numpad. Definitely frustrating when something usually works until it doesn't! Lol!

Hi Jesse,

Here is a list of things to check. Go through each item and double check even though you checked it before.

1. Options> Link Timeline and Edit Selection

2. Options > Link k Track and and Edit Selection
3. Edit window, interact with Track, make sure wave form for audio track and clips for midi/instrument track is selected for track view selector.
4. Interact with Track list table and deselect and reselect the track to edit even though Voiceover says it's selected.
5. This part is not necessary, but solo the track you selected to make sure the content you want to edit is in fact on the track you selected. Also if the output of the track goes to a bus, you need to either solo or safe solo the aux track.
6. Make a selection and play edit with option+[ to make sure it play from the beginning of selection and stops at the end of selection automatically.
Hope that helps and keep us updated.

One more thing...

Make sure insertion follows playback is not selected in edit window > Cursor Tool Cluster > Insertion Follows Playback.

Otherwise, you'll lose your selection during playback.

Your life is like a penny. You're going to lose it. The question is:
How do
you spend it?
