Hi guys,

I've been working on PT 11.3.0 with Yosemite for about a year and it works just fine as long as accessibility is concerned, but sometimes I struggle
on the mixing process when I need to check meter levels. some of the track will show just ok but others would just say "level meter" and nothing shows, then I duplicate the track then it starts showing again. That can be a very time consuming. Pain in the ass really!
So is there a way of fixing that? I still have an update with avid. Does the last version of PT is accessible enough?

Thanks in advance

Hi,

I recommend that you hide all other tracks, reduce the number of items shown inside of each shown track, and make sure there is no other windows floating on the screen. Then toggle with the page up and page down keys on your keyboard until you see that VoiceOver can read the levels. This method works also if you see no values in the gain reduction meter.

Best,
John André

Hi Jose,

As John mentioned in his reply, try hiding everything except the essential tracks for the task. The basic idea is that VoiceOver will see certain things even when they're truly hidden off screen. In other words, if there are more tracks in the session than can be displayed in the Mix window, for example, VoiceOver will still tend to read the channels and you can do things like mute, solo, record enable, etc. but when it comes to dynamically changing elements like a meter, voiceOver won't read anything because there are no values to read since the channel strip is not even visible on screen. Also, as John mentioned, floating windows can obscure the meters. That goes for Pro Tools floating windows like plug-ins as well as windows like calendar notifications and other system specific windows and dialog boxes. Keep that in mind next time you have trouble with meters.

Thanks for the replys guys…
So, I got rid of the useless info on the instrument windows, I’ve hidden tracs even to instruments that are part of the track, got rid of all of the floating windows but nothing really happened. I am not sure if I got what you did with the page up and down, I’ve pressed it and nothing really happened. Can you explain how to do that exactly
 please?
Just another note, I tried to solo safe the track and voice over is not letting me. When I press VO + Shift + F5it says Unable to move VO cursor under the mouse.
Can you really check the GR levels? that’s exciting! I was never able to do that other than my own way around it which usually takes too long…

Cheers.
Be well.

Hi,

If you for instance have an extended keyboard with separate page up and page down keys, try first to press the page up several times, and test the meter. If it doesn’t work, press the page down several times and try again. On screen, you will scroll the content of the window far up or down, and hopefully this will make the meters visible on the screen.

The issue with Solo safe is the exact same, you have to show only this track and hide all others, and use the page down/page up keys to make the solo button visible on the screen. Then you can focus your VoiceOver and mouse cursor there, and command-click with the mouse or track pad on the solo button.

Best,
John André

Hi all,

Today I was totally absorbed in the control services of Avid, thanks to Pino. The artist mix, the transport and the artist S3.
The last one seems very promising, but also the most expensive one.
And finally, I must admid, there is indeed a very big leap between for example the behringer touch and the QCon versus the avid s3.
My question for now is:
Do any of you work with the avid s3 or the s2 or s1?
After watching more then 50 youtube video's I am convinced that the Avid brand is what I need.
All the tutorials were so that I now fairly know the layout of the s3 and everyone was using all controls instead of working the keyboard.
Plugins were no drama. Even better, when flipping, all the parameters in use, could be controlled not by the encoder knobs, but by the 16 motorized faders.
I am very excited and like to know, if I have to buy the s3, or can the work also be done by the cheaper s1, with 8 motorized faders and less encoders? both with the avid transport.

Hope to hear from you guys,

Mac

The folks at Sweetwater tell me any of those you mentioned will work. I chose the Mackie but it does not have the flip it was expensive enough for my weekend use.

Thanks a lot guys!
I ended up upgrading it to the 12.4 version and it is snappy and nice! I haven’t had a problem with meters but the fade in and fade out commands are no longer working. When I go option + D or option + G I got no fades! any help?

Cheers

Be well.

I think it sort of depends on what the keyboard focus mode of Pro Tools is set to. Sometimes, instead of Option, Control works. Give that a try. Theoretically, in Commands focus mode, you can simply just use the one letter to issue the command without any modifiers. I tend to stay away from that mode. Also, of course, make sure you have the Edit window open when you're trying to issue the fade commands.

HTH,
Slau

Hello,

Instead of using option, use control which is also found under the edit menu.
