Hi Sarah,

It is always strange how this cancer presents itself. Each diagnosis has a different story. So sorry you are faced with it.

Run, not walk, to the nearest oncology surgeon who is familiar with HIPEC and see if you are a candidate for it. You can just google HIPEC and perhaps there is someone in  your area who does it. If you are on the east coast, let me know and I can put you in touch with Dr. Armando Sardi in Baltimore.

Gather up all your medical records, scans, reports, and films. A HIPEC surgeon will be looking for any data you might have.  I have met many women who have had this surgery, including one who had it 19 years ago. HIPEC is the best option for this cancer.

Thanks so much for your quick reply Andy.  I see the foundation office is Arlington, MA.  Are you in the New England area?  I'm in northern VT.  Might you have any Dr recommendations for this region or Boston area ?

Dr. Michael Steller in Boston, MA is my Oncology/Gyn surgeon, and he is excellent. I researched the best PPC Oncology surgeons around, and he is one of the best. Thank you for passing along dr Steller's info for me Mandy.  Have you gone ahead with the debulking and HIPEC?  I just wonder if they are procedures that I ought consider at this point while I am feeling fairly well  I suppose a consultation is the way to go...  My gyno-oncologist did not recommend debulking surgery for me when I was part way through carbo/taxol treatment this winter because I was responding really well to the chemo.   I hear that debulking is standard protocol at many hospitals - I think my doc is evaluating me as an individual case and he felt that at the time, no benefits would be gained though Ia debulking surgery.  It seems that this subject deserves further attention/investigation!

I've had a couple of discouraging setbacks since ending chemo; a brutal fall on my back has left me in ongoing pain with several fractured ribs for 5 weeks and then along came one of these wk+ long flu/bug viruses that I'm trying to overcome without taking antibiotics!

Have to rest now.  Stay well Mandy and know that hearing from you is a joy!!!  Hope you are staying well!

Hi,

My mom has been battling ppc since 2012. She has had 3 debulkings and multiple rounds of chemo, is now platinum resistant. For her first round she had the ip chemo through a port in her abdomen, it was not hipec. Do you know if she can have the hipec now. We were told she could only have the ip 1 time because it would be so hard on her bone marrow.She is starting to get bowel obstructions more frequently and recently had surgery to try to relieve them and now has a peg tube and a colostomy. She is a fighter but it is getting harder.

Thankyou for any help. My heart goes out to anyone who has had to deal with this awful disease.
