I am hoping your transplant will soon be yours. Be sure to have some means of preventing any blood stasis during the transplant, heparin or another drug. You mean the world to me.

Thank you so much. Mele Kalikimaka to you too!
I am so glad to be living where I am. The people here are great.

lots of love to you Sweet One,

Oh thank you so much Diane. Without you and your guidance I would never have the quality of life I am experiencing at this time. My liver resection was one of the best decisions I have ever made. At the time of my transplant evaluation my GFR went up from 21 to 22. Not a big jump but nevertheless better. I will be evaluated every 3 months. When I reach 20 I will be placed on "the" list.

Lots of love to you too❤️😘

Oh Zoe,
This is wonderful. Any little rise in kidney functioning is a good sign. I am toasting you!

Hi Zoe,

How long ago did you have your liver resection done?

Congratulations Zoe,

I wanted acresection for my liver, but the doctor/ surgeon did not recomend it, he actually said no, is spite of having "plenty" of healthy liver. I asked him why and he said that in a couple of years I would have cysts growing again. I have many cysts of varied sizes, not just one or two cysts, was it that your case? Did you have just one or two cysts?

So I am now on the waiting list for a double transplant (kidney also). I think I will be transplanted this winter/spring.

In the US, at the Mayo Clinic, cysts have not re-grown. Other surgeons may have difficulty in getting all the cysts. Mine have never re-grown. I had my liver resection done 20 years ago with no regrowth documented by yearly MRI.

Warmly,
Diane

Hi Lars,
What hospital or doctor said no? Dr. Nagorney at Mayo Clinic in Rochester MN is the best liver surgeon. If you haven't consulted with him, I strongly suggest you do.
Best of health to you,
Zoe

Hi Zoe and Diane,

I am in London, King,s college hospital, I think it is considered a very good hospital, especially in liver.  The doctor that recommended the double transplant is Professor Heaton, and, as far as I know, he is one of the best in the department.

I was very upset at first and found it difficult to cope with the idea of a double transplant. But I am accepting it better now, what else can I do. I want to trust they have decided the best for me. I think it was quite determinant the fact that my kidneys are working already very poorly, and, apparently, the new liver will favour the berth of the new kidney.

I want to think, I need to think, it is the best for me. I am becoming a little anxious, but I guess it is normal.

I am glad for you both that a resection was enough.

Lar x

Dear Lar,
Sometimes the best answer for you maybe a transplant. It is whatever the doctors are familiar with. I happen to be in such a place where the doctors have started liver resections for PLD. Not every doctor has this same rate of saving the PLD liver.

Doctors, researchers examined over 100 individuals with PLD. They measured the functioning liver of all individuals. Those who had PLD vs those who had normal livers. The healthy or good liver was equal amongst all individuals.

Liver cysts do multiply when given exposure to hormones, to hormone like molecules such as pesticides, herbicides. Octreotide, an injectable blocks this effect and this results in the PLD liver size shrinking.

Anxiety about a transplant is normal. It can be the  best for you. I have known over the years 2-3 from the UK who have had transplants for PLD. They were extremely satisfied with the results plus their support system, their family were all close by.
