By the way, i found the rule that was referenced to me by a 5-star VC about pregens - basically, they are not meant to be cannon fodder (no surprise), OR (oddly!) EVEN a chance to play a class that the party needs (5 fighters and rogue walk into a bar...)... but apparently this rule only applies to Modules and APs, not scenarios, for reasons i cant fathom.
Guide to Organized Play, p 29, bottom right, second paragraph, first sentence under "Legal Pathfinder Society Characters:" (emphasis added)
"For modules and Adventure Path content below 9th level
, if you do not have a character in the correct level range, you may use a [pregen from
paizo.com or NPC codex]"
In other words, you cant pick and choose when to play a pregen - you can only play one when you have zero characters that could meet the level range.
why it applies only to modules and AP, i dont know. why it applies at all, i dont know.
How on earth is a GM supposed to audit every single players account any time he asks to play a pregen?
My interpretation of his wording (so this is by no means a quote) was that the same rule *would apply to scenarios too*, if they could enforce it... if not for the infinite complexities of :
player #1 - i dont have a guy in this range so ill run a pregen
player #2 - hey if i run a different guy i have yours will now work!
player #3 - but now mine wont and I have to play a pregen
player #4 - and now your lvl change makes me play a different character
player #1 - and now im ineligible again
(repeat until dead)
Anyways, the spirit of the rule seems clear - youre not supposed to help out a party by running a Kyra-7 when you have a valid character you could play instead.
take it for what its worth, as far as i can read it only applies to modules and AP... for now.
