You understood very good, 4ullas. But please tell me, where is written I can't do it?

Anyway, I spoke with Stefano as he his one of my friends in Rome. As he is moving he will not have connection to internet for about 2 weeks. He asked me to remove his last vote. I hope you will not be contrary. If you are contrary he told me to delete his vote. You can then later write to Stefano yourself, when he will be back. Please let me know. Daniela

If in fact Stefano told you to remove his last vote, I would accept that as an authorized change. If he had not provided any instructions, I would say that the total vote should be removed.

Thanks!

Hi Bruce and Daniela:

In my opinion, nobody but the voter can change the vote list posted by one voter, even Daniela. If she does it, the shadow of doubts about corruption in the NPC will be covering our longlasting successful contest.

According to the rules, the vote post can be reedited by his/her voter many times before the deadline, but not by any other, including Daniela or the Month moderator.

Best regards from 4Ullas

Hello, Daniela - I have been alerted to the fact that Post No. 490 in the Feb NPC thread is by user "Djaty" who is only a recent Panoramio member, and has no photos uploaded. If I read the rules correctly, Djaty is not eligible to vote in this NPC. Should his vote post be removed?

Almost each month we have somebody that refuse to moderate after the victory.
I think we should add a new rules, a very important one.
Please don't participate if you don't think to moderate the game in case you win.

My english is not so good. (mine is not better and I moderate the game)
People have to understand that. If you understand enough to participate then you should moderate if you win. I think we will not accept this excuse anymore. Rob and Wim gave us a great Toolkit everybody can use. Many users are so friendly to help, as they always do. So, if anyone feels he/she will not be able to do it so he has to be honest with us and not participate.

Thank you, Daniela

so what about the rule 6 b?
6. Prize: nothing in the material world; however, a great feeling of elation at having a favorite photo liked by so many fellow photographers!

a) the winner has the option to choose the subject for the next month’s contest
b) if the winner declines, then the next person in the Top 10 will be offered this option, with ties decided as explained above in rule #5b, until someone accepts

Anybody can have pb and ( or ) don t expect to win , and has to decline , like in the last Italian csp ( roofs)... and the rules are always the same
so , why suddenly being to much directive , ...
if people decline , I think that he or she is honest with himself , and with the second place of the game
even when the winner whoelius want to moderate , his theme was found too much difficult ; and he decline... will we have also to choose an easy theme to be allowed to moderate?

I'm sorry for the inconvenience I caused by declining as a moderator. I thought choosing next month's subject and moderating the NPC is a honour and joy of anybody, so someone would accept this duty from the Top10. It would be a honour for me, but I didn't feel right to accept this - in a need of assistance. I'm sorry and it would be a pity if I won't be able to participate in these games because of this.

Regards, Márta

I just wanted to apologize for not voting on this month's NPC. I had planned on voting, but then I went away just before voting started and there was no access to the internet where I was. I have just returned to where I could connect and went to vote, but alas, found that the voting had already closed. Congratulations to the winner and all the other entries. There were so many great entries. I will be sure to vote on this next contest.

Hello dear Panofriends!!!!

First of all. I would like to thank everyone who voted on my picture, I'm very happy and honoured by the final result!

Also I would like to congratulate Mr: Moose by a wonderful job done in keeping all things well organized!

Well dear friends, according to the rules, the next moderator for March NPC contest would be me, (Marta and 2c found themselves incapable for the moment).
Unfortunately I will have to decline too. It would be a great honour to accept this task, but I will be away from my home for the next 7 to 10 days making it hard to manage and lack of time to keep things running well!!!

Please accept my apologies !!!! I'm sure the next moderator will do a nice job and pick a wonderful theme (as they always do).

Sincerely!!!! :))))

Hi Gyula:

Thanks for your message, Just some data to clarify your statement

H Prell Marta has posted 3 entries in the last 12 months, but 8 since the NPC started in March 2008, with a total of 240 votes. That means a average of 30 votes per entry, Good scores but less than urbietorbe, Herb Riddle, GreenDK or Karen James

If necesary, I will post the Ranking of total agregate scores of the 561 participants.

Hi all,

Apologies for being out of the loop on this thread in the last few days due to work commitments. Gabor Retei, did very kindly offer to help me with the moderation of the March NPC which I am very grateful for and appreciate. Unfortunately due to work commitments for March/April coming i felt i would have to decline as i feel i could not give the NPC moderation the deserved and required attention necessary.

I would like in the future to be able to fulfill the moderation duty at some stage as i think it's a great competition. I am delighted to see our good friend Marcello has stepped into the breach with a wonderful theme 'Clouds'.
I would also like to thank Bruce for the brilliant theme and job he carried out in Febs NPC. Thanks to everyone who voted, I really appreciate It!

Best of luck to everyone in Marchs NPC! Marcello you will do a great Job and i appreciate you stepping into the void!

Apologies once again if my absence of communication has caused any confusion.

Hi 4 ullas , I would like to see the average list of real and standardized votes ,
for me as an old participant the only interesting list of the actual earnings.
I have no affinity with something that is uncontrollable.
Gold and silver medals for every one who just started to take part of the competition are not interesting.
You did a very good job but don't lose the reality !!
In my opinion the ranking of real and standardized votes in combination with the number of participations is the only realistic comparison.

Since the monthly ranking is built by using the last 12 month scores, I decided to produce the Standardized Votes Ranking, just every 4 Months, as well as the ranking of Most voted entries.

Hi, all - I understand the concern of people when they feel their understanding of English is not deep enough to be able to be the moderator -

But it really does not require that much English knowledge. In fact, if a person wishes to just choose the topic and set the rules, it is fairly easy for an English-speaking assistant to do all the writing. Most of it is "boilerplate", or material repeated from one contest to the next.

The time commitment during the contest is really quite moderate. Every couple of days, check entries and votes to make sure everything is right. Daniela always works on this too, and others are available to help out.

It appears the challenge of moderator has fallen to me! I'm sort of astonished and anxious but I will try my best to do a good job and moderate the 2010 March NPC .

Mine was 7th photo and now holds 7th place in the 2010 February NPC. If you believe that 7 is a lucky number, then perhaps this contest will be fun as they have in the past.

I have hesitated in making this decision and am only accepting because I see there is a lot of help. I am sure they will tell me where to start and what to do. If this is so, then I propose the next topic to be:

Thank you, Jean. We will help you. On Sunday evening, when it's the right time for you, you can copy the first post of the last game, using the quote. You can copy and past the whole post, but for the date and the words referred to the old topic. You have to change the title and the month and add some simple words to explain your topic. Then in the next ten days you have only to check if the numbers in the posts and in the titles are right. I will check the links and fix them,if needed. In the meantime you could download the Toolkit from here

http://www.rstamp.karoo.net/

should you haven't already done . It's the best to moderate and you will have time to study it. When you have it open on your PC click on the Question mark. There you have how to use it. Ask for everything you don't understand. Many friends will be here to help you.

:? :? OK, I have the 'Copy of NPC Toolkit' but it doesn't seem to be working. First there is a window with instructions that I have tried to follow as best as I can but it doesn't seem to make any difference. The window states this:

Macros are disabled because the security level is set to High and a digitally Trusted Certificate is not attached to the macros. To run the macros, change the security level to a lower setting (not recommended), or request the macros be signed by the author using a certificate issued by a Certificate Authority.

After realizing that this might not make any difference I just clicked the X in the corner and got rid of the window.

I clicked on the "?" in the corner and got a whole page with a tiny window asking for "VBAProject Password".

What do I do now?

It appears the challenge of moderator has fallen to me! I'm sort of astonished and anxious but I will try my best to do a good job and moderate the 2010 March NPC .

Mine was 7th photo and now holds 7th place in the 2010 February NPC. If you believe that 7 is a lucky number, then perhaps this contest will be fun as they have in the past.

7th place maybe, but your raccoon photo is first in Dis Moose's heart :-)

FYI - once the topic has been 'locked' the 'quote' function no longer works. If one cuts-and-pastes the text from the old post, one must newly insert all of the edits (color, type size, bold and etc). I know, I have learned from hard experience. Not that big a deal, really, just some extra work. I can help if you like - that stuff I can do!

Hi Jean you must enable macros for the toolkit to work. I and many others have downloaded the toolkit with no problems at all. I have used it for months to follow the voting. It really is a powerful helper for the moderators job and creates automatic posts for the opening, closing etc. It also highlights voting faults, ie people not entitled to vote, or those who accidentally vote for too many or too few.

Once you have the toolkit open fill in the url for the contest forum (last month the number was 24925, You could use this to try it out) Then click on the space below that number, then click on lookup. All important values will fill themselves in. Then click on the Entries tab at the bottom and download the enrties. Then click on the votes tab at the bottom and download the votes.
>From there you have the basics. If you fill in other parts of the first screen you can start to make the automatic posts for the moderators job.

I look in most days. if I see a problem I'll let you Know, as will many others. :D
Congratulations Ian.

As I am a moderator I don't know how it works for you, Bruce. But I can reopen it and then it should work.

As for the Toolkit Jean you have to enable the macros. I never had problems. It was the same with the CSP moderator last month , she could not use it.because the macros did not work. Maybe could Rob help?

As I see Ian has already given some answers. Thanks Ian.

Hello Jean

In Excel follow these menu options to set the security to medium
Tools->Macro->Security Level->Medium

When you next try to run the Toolkit, there should be a dialogue, to which you choose the option "Enable Macros"

Best wishes, Rob

Thank you all!

Now I go see how it works...

Thank you, Daniela, but I wish to be sure that I understand.

The contestant writes the name of the country in the post when they enter the contest, the posting in the Forum... but it is not necessary to put it in the title above the photo in the gallery.

Is that right?

Yes, it's right. Sometimes the title is not even the same. The name of the country is only for 4ullas's statistics, so it's needed in the forum post. What is needed in the photo title in the gallery is the number.

Since many people don't understand English ( as written above ), I think that it's necessary to clarify the meaning of the word "twilight". The borderline between "twilight" and "sunset" could be very weak, so some photos may not fit the criteria (for example: have the sun to be absent in the photo?). Thank you

I'll be glad to make changes if needed. This is what I have written:

Twilight occurs twice a day - a brief time that is just before the sun appears at the beginning of a new day or just after it disappears at the end of the day. The sun is not present, it is behind the horizon.

Your photo should represent a tiny moment in time during twilight. There are no restrictions on subject matter except they should meet the usual Panoramio guidelines.

I have suggested to a few entrants that they MAY edit their posts and switch to a different photo because the sun is so obviously present. However, this is NOT a requirement. The voters will probably make their choices based upon the definition of the word twilight (when the sun is behind the horizon and is not visible).

Others may be having doubts about the sun in their photo.

I encourage editing if anyone wants to choose a different photo... for any reason.

Hi Jean,
small notice in intial competition post could help - something like:
"...voters are responsible for distinguishing between sunset and twiligth and vote for twilight pictures only..."

Bruce da Moose used same approach in last contest and I found it smart and efficient. And it makes moderator's work easier. :)

I think its legal to make this addition in time of pictures posting, because it actually doesn't chage theme specification.

Hi Bruce, I don't know if the contestants are allowed to change their photo or to withdraw it and send a new one instead (for technical or any other reasons)... but it was not my point!

And I don't want you to change your nice post at all, it is clear twilight for me!! ;-)

My point was only that: in last Monochromatic Moods NPC announcement you use "foxy" clause - that voters are responsible for selecting pictures according to the theme specification. And I suggest to include similar clause to this NPC announcement, to make moderation easier for Jean.

I will leave the intro as it stands. Anyone who has already entered will not be reading it again, I would think. In the interest of fair play, I won't change the intro. That suggestion might be a good one for the next moderator.

As I have stated before:

I encourage editing if anyone wants to choose a different photo... for any reason.

Tomas - But, but, - I may find an even nicer one! :-)

I understand the "foxy" part - but being clever is not a big part of my personality. I think it is a generally a good idea (and not my own, by the way). I did that again because, if I did not, I'd spend a lot of time fussing over pictures and possibly battling with people over small nuances. I went through that once, and I would not do it again.
