Jean-François Lamy how many countries is OWLCMS running today? How many international or national championships are you at? How about in the USA? Just curious about your reach and impact on global weightlifting.

TL;DR; owlcms is currently the software of choice for state-level, national and multi-national events

As of last night, it had been used in 87 countries so far in 2025.  I keep a map of the metropolitan areas where the software is used - see here.
So it's pretty much used worldwide with the exception of Africa.  I keep a list of where it's been used for national and continental and worlds
-- it's in at this location. That gives about 46 countries.

At the continental and multi-country federations, the PanAm federation and the Nordic Federation countries use the software (except for events where IWF requires their own).
Am hoping that the Balkans will do the same.

At the Masters level, United Masters is standardizing on owlcms, and recently the European Masters and Asian Masters were held on owlcms.
IMWA Masters championships are split between owlcms and ScoreKeeper, depending on where they are held and who is running the scoring.

In Central and South America, Brazil, Argentina, Ecuador, Uruguay, and more recently Colombia have standardized on owlcms, and there is significant usage in Chile and other countries.

In North America, USAW, Canada and Mexico all use owlcms for their National events.

In Europe, the situation is a little bit different at the national level, because several federations have their own legacy arrangements.
- Some federations are owlcms for national individual events (Nordics, France, Netherlands, Hungary, etc.).
- But they also have older simpler software for team competitions with very specific rules.(Germany with Bundesliga, France for club and team meets)
- Sometimes, the federation has paid for its own software (Spain), or has a long-standing arrangement (Italy)
- And sometimes it's a mix of legacy software and owlcms depending on which club organises (Poland, Greece)

Concerning the impact, well the software has been seen by all the IWF higher-ups.  It's been used in showcase events in Saudi Arabia and all the Gulf countries.
The IWF and EWF presidents both were present in Georgia just last week.  And the PanAm president just moved up to IWF General Secretary.
I would love for IWF to provide grants so that countries could buy a federation-level kit (and trickle down a revenue)

Thank you, Jean-Francois. I thought we started using OWLCMS in 2019 but CoPilot says the official launch date was 1/22/20. Is my memory failing me again?

I wrote an Excel version in 2005 that got used at PanAm/Canadian Masters in June 2006.  Les Simonton was present and he imported stuff to his system to produce the proper documents.
I rewrote it in 2009 to be a web application -- that was owlcms2.  This was actually used in many places as late as 2022.
There was a aborted attempt at an owlcms3 in 2016.
Then in 2019 I rewrote it as owlcms4 with a major design change -- it had to run in the cloud and scoreboards and refereeing had to run on tablets/phones
Copilot's job is to make up credible answers, but as if often the case, is wrong.
