hi guys, I want to put this machine into an esx server.
Created a new vm and configured to use the disk from this machine which I uploaded on the esx host.
I tried both esx 5.1 and esx 4, both fail to start the new vm. esx 4 says invalid disk type 7.  esx 5 says it cannot find the file...
I did this steps before with other vms and it worked fine.
Any idea how i could get owaspbwa up on a ESX?

Thanks

Cristian,

Unfortunately I don't have much recent experience with ESX, but it SHOULD work.  I just released version 1.1.1 of the VM, which is now available in .ova format.  Perhaps pulling that into ESX will fix whatever issue you are coming across.

Another possible issue is that the VM is (intentionally) using an older version of the VM format and older virtual hardware.  I've never had an issue with it on more modern versions of Workstation and Player, but perhaps ESX is more picky.  You could try "upgrading" the virtual hardware in Workstation before sending to ESX and that may get things working.

Good luck and please let us know if you are able to get it working since other people may run across the same issue.  Thanks.

Chuck

Hi,
Thanks, I have managed to make it work, by deploying it to esx using vmware converter tool rather than just copy.

Similar story problem and fix.  Was trying to get the 1.1.1 OVA running on a new ESXi 5.5.0 install via the vSphere Client on my workstation.   Kept getting the wonderfully broad "A specified parameter was not correct," error.   Logs on the ESXi server said it was having problems with the disk and NIC.

Ended up running it through a trial installation of Workstation and then using Converter to send it to the ESXi server.   Made no changes to the underlying virtual hardware -- just piped in through three VM products.

Yes. Instead of using Convertor I had success today opening the VM (from the un7zipped archive) in Workstation 9, writing an OVF out with Export and then importing the OVF with ESX/VSphere client. This is not specific to BWAP .. which is awesome, btw.

In one case I did have to update the VMware "hardware" version of the VM before Export was an active option.
This all has something to do with the hard drive interface setting in the VMware configuration files for the VM and has bitten before on VBox/VMWare compatibility as well, but I don't quite understand the details. I'm hesitant to hand-edit the vmx files, though there is certainly guidance online for where to start with that.

I hope this helps. You may not need Convertor for this if you can just write and read OVF. Convertor is certainly a valuable tool, but being able to skip a step or two is nice :)
