Custom POI databases with their attendant bitmap symbols

Can one yet download custom POI databases with their attendant bitmap symbols/icons into Osmand+ as one can with old TomTom satnavs and presumably some others as most of the suppliers of these databases supply them in at least two formats.  These are so useful in TomTom but not as useful as they would be on my tablet in Osmand+

You can show or import pois in format gpx, but sybolt/icons not.

If you need a converter use routeconverter or gpsbabel.

Thank you Peter B.  Oh yes I was afraid of that.  I did what you suggest, some time ago, for motorhome stellplatz in Germany and now Germany is covered in almost meaningless different coloured stars which obscure everything else when zoomed out and I still don't have the shops and such like I want on a frequent basis.  Oh yes I can find them, but not so conveniently.

 

I mentioned that I had the desired situation on TomTom but that is an old badly outdated instrument and I am told you can't do it on the modern ones which is why I recently bought a Garmin.  Unfortunately the Garmin has a really feeble GPS antenna and loses reception frequently so can not be relied on which is why the TomTom still comes with us sitting alongside the Garmin.  Anyway I keep hoping the OsmAnd programmers will write that in and I will be able to dispense with the other two.
