I installed one of the nightly builds and now cannot remove.
The uninstall button is greyed out preventing me from uninstalling.

What is the solution?
Thanks

Hi

It can be the screen wake up option.

If it was enabled OsmAnd can become device administrator and you need to remove OsmAnd from Security -> Device Administrators list first before uninstalling.

Indeed there has been a similar question weeks before on this mailinglist.

So I think this issue can be listed in the FAQ ... see https://code.google.com/p/osmand/wiki/Welcome?tm=6

I mentioned it for one of the Qt builds (http://comments.gmane.org/gmane.comp.gis.openstreetmap.osmand/4968).

Finally I managed to uninstall it but can't remember anymore how I did that. I will try to find that back.

Okay.
I disabled OsmAnd from the Device Administrator list.

That went well.

I then rebooted and tried to install the new apk (nightly build) but that failed with the message App not installed - an existing package by the same name with a conflicting signature is already installed."

Bear in mind I already have OsmAnd+ installed.

Osmand-nightly = Osmand+
Osmand-default=Osmand Free

If you have OsmAnd+ installed, you can't install osmand-nightly over it. It's the same version but the Play version is a signed version and this nightly debug is not. They conflict and therefore you can't install it. This is to prevent hacking of official apps.
If you want to run 2 versions next to eacht other, you need to install the Osmand-default next to your Osmand+
Or install the Play Free version next to a Osmand-nightly.

For testing it doesn't make a difference at all. You don't have wiki in the Free version and a limit of 10 maps. simply download the maps in your Osmand+ version and install OsmAnd-default as nightly build next to it.

I have the paid version which I believe is osmand+.

I also have a nightly version - which is the one I am trying to remove.

My intention is to install the latest nightly version. Which I believe can be installed and operated independently of the paid version.

Can be. check you icon (should not contain the green Free text on the top right), and check your About popup.

If so than this is the nightly Osmand-default.apk, or the OsmAnd-qt-arm-default.apk, which are equal to the free version, but then as new development, debug version.
It is definitely not possible to have both the Google Play Osmand+ version installed next to the OsmAnd-nightly (or Osmand-design.apk or Osmand-sherpafy.apk or OsmAnd-qt-arm-nightly.apk) as these are all development, debug versions of the OsmAnd+ apk.

No, definitely not. As mentioned in my previous post about signed apk (Google Play OsmAnd+) versus unsigned osmand-nightly.apk: same manifest, but different signing. Release versions in google Play are signed and have a controlled CRC checksum. A development debug version has the same android manifest claiming that is is identical. Of course the CRC checksum is different. Therefore it is a hacked release version to Android, probably malicious doing all kind of creepy things. This is blocked for installation, and you can't force that either on rooted device.

It is the same as I would take the Facebook.apk (which I think is already malware), and put "something" in there using apktool (https://code.google.com/p/android-apktool/) and try to spread it as an official facebook apk. No way!

Oh.

Yes I definitely have the google play osmand+.
And you have made it clear that it cannot co exist with the nightly osmand.

Thanks for your help.
But that doesn't explain that not so long ago (10 weeks???) I was able to install a nightly build whose number I do not recall.

Yes, but we have 8 types of nightly builds (we had 7 but we now have an IOS version as well so it seems). Depending on the one you choose you might have been able to install it alongside.
