I have been searching for a Ruby gem for OrientDB and I have only been able to find it for Jruby. Is there a ruby gem available as I am seeking to build Rails app on OrientDb. Thanks

https://github.com/veny/orientdb4r works (in my intial explorations!)
with 1.5.0, haven't tested yet with 1.6.0-SNAPSHOT.

We are working on Oriented (http://github.com/ruprict/oriented) which uses JRuby (I know, you seem to not want JRuby) It's not well documented right now (on the list) as we want to get it to a certain point before we "announce" it.

BTW, if you are building a "big" rails app, JRuby is (arguably) the way to go.  Real threads, etc. and deployment environments like Torquebox make a very scalable option.

I also wrote a couple of posts on http://sitepoint.com/ruby about orientdb, if you're interested.

Hope this is useful,
Glenn

So not proper Ruby support yet :(

I know jRuby is amazing, but not everyone needs it, and Ruby 2 performance is great, and in a lot of cases simpler to deploy (as you don't need to fight with Java).

Is thee any plan to support Ruby?

I guess I need you to define "proper".  We've been using the Oriented gem and JRuby on a Rails app in production for months. There are some minor issues, but we're getting there.

If you want to use Ruby 2 instead of JRuby, then you'll need to consume the OrientDB REST API, which you can do with Faraday or HTTParty and the like.

So, there is Ruby support. If you want different/better, jump in and help out.

"proper" means actual Ruby (not Jruby, that's a different platform) support,

You are talking to a converse (big opensource lover here) sadly my orientdb knowledge is not good enough to help out, and as I explained before, what I need right now is something I can use out of the box. I'm the future I can considerer move to OrientDb and help out :)

thanks for your answer!
