DNS issues?

I have implemented a VM of OpenVPN and it appears to somewhat function.

Ping test from the web interface shows the VM can reach the world.

I have it running under Virtualbox, promiscuous mode on the bridged interface.

Connecting to it from Ubuntu 12.04 outside of my home network and I can reference other machines on my network by IP just fine, but then DNS lookup completely fails from the connected machine.

Has anyone had a similar issue?

I can connect to my home network via VPN over pptp just fine, but I'm looking for a more robust solution...

Any help would be appreciated.

The most likely missing piece: your router need a LAN route back to your remote system(s) via the openvpn server.  The DNS responses need to find their way back to the remote system(s) -- the openvpn clients.

Not a networking expert. More of a hint?
