Hi,
I have been working with OpenRefine for a few months now. Today, when I went to Open Project, the list was empty except for a couple "clipsboard" entries. I had about 10 projects before.

If I browser to the workspace directory I see two folders:
"C:\Users\rviard\AppData\Local\OpenRefine\1476216229469.project"
"C:\Users\rviard\AppData\Local\OpenRefine\2196243937400.project"

and two files:
"C:\Users\rviard\AppData\Local\OpenRefine\workspace.json"
"C:\Users\rviard\AppData\Local\OpenRefine\workspace.old.json"

They don't appear corrupted (as I've read on other posts).

I wonder why all the projects aren't there, and also whether I can load these projects.

I'm on Windows 7 using OpenRefine 2.6-beta.1

The terminal doesn't show any errors. I've tried closing down and re-opening refine with no luck.

Thanks.

Hi Richard.  Sorry to hear about your problems.  I'm kind of at a loss for suggestions on where to start.  Thankfully problems with corrupted projects are rare, but when they've happened in the past there have typically been 0-lengh files or some other artifact left behind.  This almost looks as if the entire workspace either got deleted or moved somewhere else.  Is that a possibility?

One thing I'd try is just a brute force search of all of \Users\rviard to look for any files called workspace.json or *.project..  It could be that the original workspace directory is lurking someplace other than where OpenRefine is looking.

You could also compare workspace.old.json to worksace.json to see if it's significantly different (e.g. has a bunch of missing projects in it).

If your investigations don't turn up any further clues to go on, I think your best solution is to restore the directory from your backups.

Tom

Thanks for getting back to me Tom. I'll give that a try.

I didn't find anything in backups, but here's something I found... All the files were in my AppData\Roaming folder, not the \local folder.
I copied the files from Roaming to Local and all the projects are there now. Only 1 was corrupted.

Thanks for the help.

If you don't use more than one machine, it probably doesn't make a difference, but the default location for this is the Roaming directory, not Local.  I'm not sure how yours got swapped.
