Hi

I've assembled the OPEN EVSE plus board and put it all together in a box.  Simulation - test works well;   Ready, EV Connected, Charging , Vent required and diode fault.  All good.
My wall unit has a Mennekes Type 2 Socket, and  use a type 2 cable that came with the car.

My problem is this:
When I connect the wall - unit to the car when it is fully charged:  Wall unit (the OPEN EVSE )  correctly says EV Connected. Also the cars 'locks' the cable from being removed. Seems OK and correct.
However, when I connect the wall unit to the car when it is in need of charging, the car try to start the charging, but wall unit contactor does not engange, and the car reports 'to low mains supply' after some seconds...

The question is why....

I do have some questions
1. The PE ground is not connected to OPEN EVSE plus Ground.  Should it be connected?
2. Proximity circuit... The cable has 220ohm between PP and Ground when open in both ends.  Correct?

Hi Stein,

Sounds like you are just about there...

Yes, OpenEVSE must connect to protective earth. PE from the EV, OpenEVSE Ground, and AC PE should all be tied together.

The proximity pin is actually a signal to the car, not the EVSE. It will have a resistance to ground that changes when you push the latch release button on the handle. Unless you're building a Hydra (which is a special case), you'll leave the proximity wire disconnected (if it's even present at all).

In Europe the IEC defines another pin called Proximity Pilot PP (not to be confused with J1772 proximity) that does connect to the EVSE to signal the ampacity of the cable. PP is not supported with the current version of OpenEVSE.

OK, But what is the reccommended usage of the PP - pin for me?  Should I disconnect it altogether?

Given what Chris pointed out, I believe the answer is “yes.”

There is nowhere for it to be connected...

OpenEVSE should connect to Protective Earth (Ground), J1772 pilot, relay output(s), AC H and N, and AC test H and N (EV side of relays).

J1772 proximity and IEC Proximity pilot are not connected.

I managed to test  my Open EVSE Plus unit today, and everything seems OK!   I connected PP to PE, and also Open EVSE Ground to PE, after info I got from this thread.
Thank You!
