Ryan,
Sure, that would be great!  For anyone else that has the same problem, I believe you need to join the onebusaway-developers group first (which you have now) before your emails will show up here.  So now you're all set to post messages here!

We should be able to get you set up as an experimental region if you provide the info about your current OneBusAway server.  See https://github.com/OneBusAway/onebusaway/wiki/Multi-Region for details of the step you need go through to get a OneBusAway server set up.  If you already have one set up, we just need the information about your server listed here - https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/11WpYOQn__NDjtvWgW0tjyqeLFoqxnZmmjklF9yP9ioU/edit#gid=1.

See this post from San Diego MTS for an example request to be an experimental region:
https://groups.google.com/forum/#!searchin/onebusaway-developers/experimental$20region/onebusaway-developers/mLsJZ0Hyyc8/lzECBIZQCgAJ

The most important items are region_name, oba_base_url, and contact_email.

Thanks,
Sean

Ryan,
Actually, looking at your agency a bit more, it looks like you're in the greater San Diego area.  Do you have service that connects with San Diego MTS?

If so, I'd suggest that you work with San Diego MTS to see if you can get your schedule and real-time data added to their existing region.  It's less overhead for you as an agency, and the riders benefit from easily seeing both sets of transit service in the same OneBusAway region.  If you join as separate regions, riders won't be able to see both sets of service at the same time.  Puget Sound and Atlanta have taken this approach, and we're doing something similar in the Tampa Bay area right now - HART covers one side of Tampa Bay, and PSTA the other.  We are piloting PSTA's data in the server maintained by HART to offer a true regional mobile transit app.  And PSTA and HART plan to share maintenance costs, so long-term it's less expensive for both agencies.

I'm cc'ing Ivan Augustino from San Diego MTS on this message as well, as he's been involved in the San Diego MTS.

Thanks,
Sean

Yeah.  Thought about that too.

Will be having a discussion with them today.

Thanks.

Actually, I think that I tried this a while back.  The gtfs schedules can be combined easily enough.

We are generating the gtfs-rt from an upload from OrbCAD.  I am not sure how MTS is doing it, I will get more info today.

Question is:
Is there a simple way to have our OBA generate our feed from OrbCAD and combine it with GTFS-rt from MTS?  So basically, two inputs generating one feed.

If it's an option, this would be the quickest way to get it done.

Thanks/

Ryan,

Yes, it’s pretty simple – however, you don’t need to combine the feeds, you can configure OneBusAway to consume multiple separate GTFS-realtime feeds, and then link each to the underlying GTFS data via the agency_id.  For example, in Tampa we’re consuming these two feeds:

·         HART – http://api.tampa.onebusaway.org:8088/trip-updates?debug

·         PSTA - http://ridepsta.net/gtfsrt/trips?debug

The other thing to consider is that if you share some stops, you’ll want to “merge” them in OneBusAway so they appear as a single stop to riders, where arrivals from both agencies appear when you tap on it.  More info on that here, which is done via OBA configuration tools:

Ryan,

You can configure multiple real-time data by modifyig data-sources.xml in onebusaway-transit-data-federation-webapp.This wiki entry explains how to that.

Furthermore, this is the example data-sources.xml code block that we used to configure PSTA and HART together:

<bean class="org.onebusaway.transit_data_federation.impl.realtime.gtfs_realtime.GtfsRealtimeSource">

<property name="tripUpdatesUrl" value="http://realtime.prod.obahart.org:8088/trip-updates" />

<property name="vehiclePositionsUrl" value="http://realtime.prod.obahart.org:8088/vehicle-positions" />

<property name="refreshInterval" value="15" />

<property name="agencyId" value="Hillsborough Area Regional Transit" />

</bean>

<bean class="org.onebusaway.transit_data_federation.impl.realtime.gtfs_realtime.GtfsRealtimeSource">

<property name="tripUpdatesUrl" value="http://ridepsta.net/gtfsrt/trips" />

<property name="vehiclePositionsUrl" value="http://ridepsta.net/gtfsrt/vehicles" />

<property name="alertsUrl" value="http://ridepsta.net/gtfsrt/alerts" />

<property name="refreshInterval" value="15" />

<!-- <property name="showNegativeScheduledArrivals" value="false" /> -->

<property name="agencyId" value="PSTA" />

<property name="alertAgencyIdMap">

<map>

<entry key="1" value="PSTA" />

</map>

</property>

</bean>

Ivan,

Sorry, I was out of the office when this request came in and haven’t gotten that far into my backlog yet.  Congrats on adding more agencies!

I’ll try to get this pushed to a staging environment today so I can test and make sure everything works correctly with the new San Diego region details.  For my reference, link to original request is https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/onebusaway-developers/aPVHJsDVovw.

Hi Sean,

We haven’t heard back from the OBA team in regards to the request in the image below. Do you know who I can directly contact for this?
