At the end it depends on what lower level protocols/radio models you needs.

Omnet + Sumo + veins framework practically fives you MiXiM integration with the sumo simulator.
Omnet + INET framework also have inetgration with sumo (trhough the TraCI mobility module).

At the end the questions are:

- Do you need SUMO at all? (I assume yes)
- Mixim or INET (if you need only lower level protocols then mixim, if you need IPv4/IPv6 then the answer is definitely INET)

(and just to complicate the matter further, INET and MIXIM can also be combined. i.e. having INET's higher layer protocols (routing, IP, TCP) and MIXIM's lower layer radio models... (and all these can be connected to SUMO as well).

You should pick the minimum requirement and choose based on that (the fewer the integrated components the less likely you will meet trouble because of the integration)

The INET Framework includes a copy of the Veins vehicular mobility
module [1] and the Veins obstacle model [2] (called TraCIMobility and
ObstacleControl).

If these modules are all you need, I would recommend using the INET
Framework.

However, if you want to simulate wireless communications based on IEEE
802.11p and IEEE 1609.4 DSRC/WAVE, these models [3] are available only
in Veins.

Regardless of whether you want to use the Veins modules in the INET
Framework or the complete module set of Veins, the online tutorial [4]
can serve as a good starting point to get to know how the modules work
together.

Best,

Christoph

Hello,

I'd like to use the veins framework (particularly, the 802.11p/1609.4 functionality) together with the inet framework (to benefit from the rich variety of applications and transport layer protocols).

I tried with no success to proceed with the above mentioned integration by following the guidelines found at:
http://sourceforge.net/apps/trac/mixim/wiki/mixnet

In particular, after proceeding with the inet project reference to the veins framework, I got the following compilation errors:
ConnectionManager/ChannelAccess.h:31:36: fatal error: MobilityAccess.h: No such file or directory

Any hints on how to use the inet within the the latest version (2.0-rc2) of veins?

Thanks.

Costas

Hi all,

I successfully installed mixim and inet together. During the installation because we have to turn off the radio it also turn off using traci examples. At this time, how can i run an example like traci_launchd. I am going to simulate a vehicular ad hoc network in this situation. How can I do that?

Thanks.

If you want to know how I install both framework together, you can follow this link : http://alibalador.blogspot.com.es/2013/02/installing-mixim-and-inet-together_11.html

Hi All,

I am trying to simulate VANET routing in OMNET++ environment with SUMO support. For this I need
to Install Mixim and INET together in OMNET++ working together. So that I would be able to use SUMO
simulations while having 802.11p PHY and MAC layer support. Can OMNET++ be configured this way.
  I am a novice to OMNET++ . Please Help

I do not think that you need INET for this.

Christoph

My Research is more in to VANET routing but I investigate the cooperative diversity in PHY layer in relation with Network layer for the VANETs. Is it possible to have routing Protocols like AODV, DYMO, with Mixim framework?

Thanks
Prasad

Hi Prasad,

Did you find solution to this issue? I am stuck at the same point. I want to run the erlangen city example given in veins 2.1 with routing algorithm as AODV.

Thanks,
