Hi guys,

I built a web application for a client of mine; I was hoping to pass off maintenance and further development to another party while I focus on my own internal software.

It's maybe a couple hours a month of programming work tops, they're a really great client to deal with, always pay on time and don't make crazy demands. I'll bring you up to speed on the software and can potentially refer further work to you down the line. Note there's not an abundance of documentation and the code has gotten somewhat spaghetti-like over the years, so some refactoring may be required.

What I'm looking for:

 - 3+ year history of PHP development and basic MySQL knowledge

 - Basic linux server administration skills

 - A great personality & the ability to communicate very well

 - A reasonable hourly rate

 - A small portfolio of previous projects I can have a look at, as this is your full time job.

Please feel free to send me a response privately on duncan at cbslimited dot co dot nz.

Cheers!

Duncan

Hi Rory,
I appreciate wanting a response right away. Unfortunately I am in the midst of two big projects as well as a server migration for the client mentioned in this email. Therefore as this is low priority work, it has had to be put on the back burner. I need to have a discussion with the client in order to determine which parties they would like me to start interviewing. This is likely to take place early next month once the server migration is complete. My apologies if anyone else has felt ignored because I haven't had a chance to look at their application. I probably should have sent a small note telling people I'd received their application and asking them to hang on.

It's understandable to follow up if you haven't had a response - that is the nature of business, and I would happily have asked you to hang on while I get the time to have a look at this. That being said, I found the way your email was worded somewhat unpleasant, and I felt it should've been sent to me privately. In my own work, I have occasionally needed to follow up on a prospective client many times. I recall one I talked to once a fortnight for two years, and then secured their business in the end and they've been a very loyal and profitable client for quite awhile now.

I would welcome anyone who took the effort to email me about this to check in whenever they'd like. However everyone will receive a response in the end.

Cheers,
Duncan

A simple acknoledgement of receipt of his email would have taken very little time.
