Lawyers

Hey Guys,

I am wondering if anybody could recommend any good Lawyers which specialise in our sector `software development`.  I feel the need for somebody to check over my client contracts to ensure they make legal sense. 

Luckily there is no suite in progress, It is just to ensure there is somebody to turn to should something legal come up.

I am not wanting to hire a bog-standard "Accidents which wasn't your fault, claims" solicitor,  as I do not thing they will understand our sector that well.

Would love to hear of other people's dealings.

I have a decent legal executive who does our contracts. We've got some very non standard arrangements with pre funding start ups and he's been great doing bespoke contracts for clients and contractors. Affordable too.

Thanks Louis,

Is Absar based in Manchester?  I would prefer a somebody friendly and local, yaknow' someone who you'd consider a good friend too.

I know it's a tall order.

So far I have a Tax and Accountant, Financial Advisor and Bank Manager whom I am with good friendly terms with.

You could drop Rhian Owen at Semple Fraser an email. I've never used her services, but she's been along to plenty of TechHub drinking sessions and is clearly keen to do work with people in our industry.

We exchanged the odd email about terms and conditions for my startup, but I haven't actually engaged anybody to provide advice on that front yet.

She said at the time that she'd be more than happy to chat about what I'd need in future on a "no obligation" basis, so while I can't yet recommend her or Semple Fraser based on their work, I've got a good vibe so far.

This is a really useful thread, I'll be making a note to set some meetings up with these contacts. I obviously have an accountant which I'm not keen on and in need of the rest too, thanks for sharing.

I checked Semple Fraser and site and it appears has been merged. 

Although Rhian Owen I can not find a contact email or number for.

I highly recommend Tax Assist Northernden they have treated me very well, even fighting with HMRC to remove penalties and such. 

Mark at Vale so far has offered me a profesional friendly service for my investments, I feel confident I could ask him about anything money related. 

Neither of these contacts definitely is not sales driven, they are honest people who genially wish to help others out.

Rob. I use Maslins as my accountant (ch...@maslins.co.uk). Very helpful and prompt at returning queries and filing paperwork.

The best thing is that they are a Freeagent partner, so I do all my invoicing and expenses with freeagent and thats it! They sort out the returns without me having to send them anything.
