I have cut 3mm balsa on a later before.
This was not on the Maker Space laser, but there is no reason why this should be any different. The only issue is the space's bed size is A2, so only 594mm wide.
You need to get the settings dialed in correctly, and the focus needs to be spot on, but it cuts cleanly when that is the case.

Hello AlistairI used the laser in FabLab in Sunderland a few times, but sadly closed now.594mm might be workable depending how I arrange the parts.Was it a commercial or hobby type laser?CheersMike
