Hey all,

I've fried my duemilanove, just when the programming was going well!

Anywhere to buy an arduino locally now that the Makerfaire has come and gone?

i don't know of any places locally, but if it's just the arduino chip i have one i could sell you for cost (3.90). it would need a bootloader programmed onto it, but we have the technology for that!

apart from that you could order one from proto-pic, not local but very good service. maplin or ESR electronics out at cullercoats might do them too.

the first thing to do though is to understand why it blew up, so it doesn't happen again! (i've cooked a few things in a row because of repeated idiocy before...)

Thanks Ed.  Just one second ago I found a forum that helped me reset the Bootloader and it is not fried after all, just go stuck in a death-spiral.  http://forums.adafruit.com/viewtopic.php?f=25&t=20340

So I am all set... but picked one up on Amazon for backup so I don't have to worry next time.

Thanks for the advice.  I know I can build one for cheaper, but don't have the time at the minute!

I can only think of Maplin and you have to buy an expensive 'kit'. Probs just best ordering online...

Cheers,
Jon.

Another option might be RS if you can get to the Team Valley but I'm not sure if they keep them in stock at the trade counter.

Maplin sells them, if you're willing to pay the high street premium.

I agree with Ed. Actually, I'm intending to get up to scratch with Boot Loader burning skills and this may be the thing to get me going!

Cheers,
Jon.

I would not even dream of buying stuff like that locally - especially Maplin or RS  - think of a price and treble it... you can of course get the chips as low as a couple of quid or so - but if you're just after one off - this seems as good as anything and you get a socket and crystal thrown in for good measure. I've bought from here.   http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ATMEGA328-ARDUINO-BOOT-DIL-16MHz-crystal-2x-22pf-cap-/130903929027?pt=UK_BOI_Electrical_Components_Supplies_ET&hash=item1e7a7b70c3
