Hey all,

Had a good time playing on Sunday and looking forward to getting to play more often.

I'm wanting to see about putting together a couple mixed (Mech / Vehicle) companies to be painted using the MechWarrior minis I have.

Does anyone have any suggestions on good resources on doing that or do I just pick what I want?

Thanks

Jason

It depends.  If you want to go canon, its pretty easy to find mechs and vehicles that are 'stereotypically' from one house, unit, etc.

If not... then just go mad, and claim that its the result of one of many wars that this imp is fighting for house kurita

Makes sense and what I was thinking, but figured it wouldn't hurt to ask.

What's the best place to get a list of the stereotypical units?

There are a few places.   The master unit list would probably be the ultimate location.  But if you want something a little less overwhelming, take a look at what is in the IWM (mech) starter packs for each house.

The other place to go look, is in the back of most source books (and in heavymetal) is a random unit selector.   Those are generally house and era specific.

But they're not complete, obviously.

If you want cannon paint schemes, http://www.camospecs.com/ is a great place to see others peoples interpretations of the terse descriptions of unit and subunit paint jobs.

I like to use Camo Spec as a reference

Jason,

An easy way to cheat is to use the Commando unit generator.  It's not a 100% accurate but it does give you some idea of what goes together,

It does put out an above average number of Gauss Demolishers. :P

My best guess is that they were commons in the random packs.

Most of what I have I got in lots from friends and such.

I was at the MWO Launch event just last week and got to chat with the Catalyst demo team. I asked him that exact question. Take a look towards the rear of the Total Warfare book for the random mech force tables on page 267-271. They're separated by weight class and House/Clan. Of course, this will be specific for Clan Invasion era, as that was the setting for this book. He said that the mechs towards the center of the table are "more likely" to be available to that house. The ones at the top/bottom of each table may be available, but uncommon. Of course, your game master can make anything plausible.

More "random mech tables" are in the Starterbooks and Era Reports for other points in the Battletech timeline.

Thanks for the info, I took a quick look at the lists and that may be the easiest one to use that I've seen.

So I had a thought this morning.

Any chance of a way to look up a mech and seeing which factions normally deployed it?  Instead of a list of mechs deployed by a faction?  Which is what I seem to be finding so far.

The BT wiki on Sarna.net would probably be useful for that. You can look up who made a Mech, and generally it will have some user details.

http://battletech.rpg.hu has a Used By field in their database for most of the mechs. requires registering for the site to use the search feature, though.

Does the MUL provide that info?

That stuff is normally in the fluff in the TRO books and on Sarna.net.

I would not worry about the canon as much as getting as much of a force together to match.
We tend to have many other games through the course of the year that utilize other time periods.

I for one, am anxious for a "Dark Age" time frame battle, as I have some of that stuff getting built & painted...
