Hello,

I'm a newbie with this subject and I hope you can help me.
I'm trying to send NodeRED email by using Gmail account as my email address.

When I'm trying to do so, I get error:

Error: Invalid login: 534-5.7.14 <https://accounts.google.com/signin/continue?sarp=1&scc=1&plt=AKgnsbvB 534-5.7.14 Z9AzKaYbN6eI-qoXyE8fLcmS_2mE_Xw6jvpp2IL_PFHkiv0JR6SqoSgwG_IgjX2VDW9-i2 534-5.7.14 OazJs9TEGP_dQnlTefEvBTpbr_ciOX1u-QBcYfBKNVeJB-KBHPvl1dkhuNjbUn9V71NVMo 534-5.7.14 dihCWYUrlG44WDAORjMj0X7jcvfBnv6GWigydxgFy-mabQKvxKqfhlSORYi0XvnE65ZHsj 534-5.7.14 OveIfk9v9IKhPMvf1FrHIb0e7cj6c> Please log in via your web browser and 534-5.7.14 then try again. 534-5.7.14 Learn more at 534 5.7.14 https://support.google.com/mail/answer/78754 k30sm305451ede.48 - gsmtp
I also get this email from Google once I've tried to send the email:

I have allowed less secured apps on gmail but it's still not working. I have also tried to use iCloud -email without any results.

All help much appreciated! Would be super important to make this work.

P.S.
I've also tried to search this issue online, found this: https://developer.ibm.com/answers/questions/176998/error-on-sending-e-mail-by-using-e-mail-node-on-no.html but it doesn't provide me a resolution.

Thank you for your help!

Hello JenniFI,

Ensure the config of the node is ok, I have it running fine with Gmail:

- Server:  smtp.gmail.com
- Port 465
- Use secure connection enabled
- User ID:  Full email address (not only user)  XX...@gmail.com
- Passw:  gmail passwd.

You may need to use an app password to allow access from other less secure devices - eg https://support.google.com/accounts/answer/185833

Hi David,

Thanks so much for your quick response.

I have added all right details there (SMTP + Port), still not working. Also allowed non-secure apps.

Any ideas?

Thanks

not sure what else to suggest as the error message you are/were getting was suggesting that... so double check the settings and make sure you use the application password not your real gmail password .

If I'm not mistaken, it you use the application login you need to use the credentials they (the app tool) generates. I think it's just the password but I've set that up with a few applications I'm using. I don't recall anything els being different but i's been a while since I set it up.

Hi Neil Cherry,

Thanks for your message!

It's def a strange issue since the password seem to be correct, basically the information goes through from my app to Gmail but Google security seems to block it. Problem seems to be with security settings or so... No idea. If I didn't get any email warning from Google, that would indicate that there's something wrong with my settings (app). Not sure if I'm correct with this one hah :D

JenniFI,

I am also not able to send to Gmail.  I am using smtp.gmail.com, port 465 with secure connection.  Userid is X...@gmail.com format.  My password is correct.  I have also allowed access for less secure apps.  Did you ever have any luck with this node?

Thanks!

Are you using 2-factor auth on gmail?

Hi there!

Unfortunately this case is still unresolved :(!
Tried without 2-factor auth.

Hello JenniFI and Julian,

I was able to figure out how to send to my gmail account.  I followed the instructions in the link below:

https://productforums.google.com/forum/#!topic/gmail/7H9YBmiT1iQ

Let me know if this helps you as well.

With 2FA enabled, I think that you have to create an application key to allow applications that don't support 2FA to connect to the API. I don't do much with Google though I'm afraid so I can't remember any of the details. Should be in your Google profile somewhere.

Yes if you use 2FA then you need to get and use an application password - not your regular password - https://support.google.com/mail/answer/185833

Try port 587
Also you may need to change the server from smtp.gmail.com to user...@smtp.gmail.com (sending via mutt requires this)

I don't use two factor auth, but I did have to enable "less secure apps" on that account.  I set up a gmail account when I got my first cheap Android phone that I've never used for anything but sending Email from my IOT devices.

As I understand it if 2FA is enabled you need to generate an "app password" and use it instead of your normal gmail password.

Using the free services from sendgrid may be a good option.  There is sendgrid node available in Node RED.

Hi Chris.  I have been able to generate an API key (using Firefox), but it does look like the free emails exist only for those on the free 30 day trial.  Below is a snippet of where to create a key after making a free 30 day account. Settings > API Key

Thanks John. It's my IE browser issue. Now I use Chrome and is ok. SendGrid is very good email service.
