I don’t personally think that there is much of a mystery about the lack of “great tubes” on ebay or other places at “reasonable prices”. The market is no longer for hobbyists, it has shifted to a collector phase where some are simply hoarding tubes and others approach it with a “win at any price” attitude. There are obviously people on this board that are engaged in this approach and some are silent and some like to post their acquisitions. It’s no different with anything else that isn’t being made anymore. Vintage comic books, baseball cards and lots of other examples of collectables show what happens when people with too much money decide what things should be worth to everyone else. Nixie tubes are no different. I would guess that there are many people on this board that have hundreds or even thousands of tubes sitting in their homes or in storage. Do they need all of them? Probably not, but that is the nature of collecting. It is only when those with lots of disposable income get into the game that the prices will rise for everyone as the supply dwindles.
When the supply has been mostly consumed and the prices are high, then there may be an opening for small shops to get back into the production of some types of tubes and actually be able to sell at a price that works today and provides a livelihood for their efforts. We are fortunate that there are some producers such as Dalibor that have figured out how to build a reliable nixie and price it so that there is a supply that is available to the hobby market. The variety that once existed is likely gone with few exceptions. The people that will consume tubes from Dalibor or Millclock are hobbyists as opposed to collectors and that will make those tubes obtainable while the vintage tubes will be out of reach for people that are in the hobby game.
It’s just economics and supply/demand.

I always check the price history to see when and how much.
I know of sellers selling something for a normal price, then after I buy and get it, they change their auction to a completely different cheaper item so it appears to new people that the cheap item sold for a higher amount.

Very nice. I personally have never seen them with horizontal/vertical mesh; only honeycomb.

I think IN-9 should be about $5-6ea and the 13s what, $10? I wish, not any more! I think it's awesome that some folks are being inventive and making things, but it really sucks when it ruins the market for specific items which haven't been made in decades.
Since you brought up IN-9 it made me think of my IV-9 collection (numitrons).
Not even 4 years ago, I was getting them on ebay for $2.50 each. About a year ago, I was getting them for about $4.50 each. Something happened and I made a purchase about 6 months ago at about $8.75 each. Now they’re from $9-$15 each plus astronomical shipping.
I might have paid too much then at $8.75 each, but I have stock piled thousands of them (all new in boxes). I am sure, well, pretty sure that I will never need to buy another one. I do remember buying 600 of them a couple of years ago thinking I would never go through them, but it turns out 600 was only enough for a little over 2 years. 😊

Regarding history of a sold item. Here is an example of a seller changing the title and contents after a sale to make it appear there was sold history of an item they are selling.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/162483870363
The auction is for 100 pcs of a small EL panel readout. $520. Fair price, but a small display.
History shows that 22 sold at a cost of $30 each auction.
Those 22 were sold to me, but it wasn’t a lot of 100 each, and the item was completely different.
The actual auction, over a year ago, was really….
They were EL panel displays, but 19 segments (alphanumeric) which I have never seen prior or after.

Bill,
Not sure which 8 tube thing you’re talking about since the link wasn’t provided; however, I think you mean the black clock with 8 x B-7971. If so, then, heheh, I have one.
It is the Cogwheel design clock. I actually went through the process of making one (sourcing the case, etc). Let me know if you need any info.
More funny is that I also got the Elegoo Saturn. I’ve only printed the rook. Yes, the resolution is great. I assume you also got the uv cure/washing station as well? It sits waiting for me to give it a real job.
As for the GC-1005, I have one that was cheaper, but did have a problem. Easy fix. As for the SP-352, I have plenty if you really need one. I have found it best to contact sellers directly to purchase and they will negotiate a better price than the high prices they’re asking on ebay. Of course I normally try to buy them all.

I agree with Paul. We need a pinned thread about this. Also Paul I'd be willing to part with some tubes for one of your single tube clocks maybe with some tube boards but I can order them since you've made them open source basically. I love your single tube clock. It's really f'in cool stuff! Your website is super cool too! I can't tell you how many times I've googled for some weird tube and guess who's got them on his site? Hehe props. It's nice when some of us can be references for others. I wish I had more time but work is crazy busy right now. I got to Scottsdale Barrett Jackson this past week on first day and last... I love cars but I think neon is even bigger fancy.
