Hi,
I am developing an application with Neo4j 1.9.1 Enterprise Edition and Neo4j Spatial 0.11. On the website someone wrote that the 1.9.X version will be supported for other 6 months.
Can I ask to you what is the meaning of this? What will happen after 6 months?
Do you suggest me to upgrade my application to version 2.0 or I am "forced" ?
I see that now the enterprise editions is available only for a free 30 days trial, so how could do this eventual definitive upgrade?
Thanks in advance.

Hi Rita,

"Support" in this context is usually commercial support. We can't, of course, support all historical versions of neo4j (there are quite a few now) so there's a window where we typically support the current version and a previous version.

Since you're using Neo4j community (I assume) the support you get is from channels like this mailing list which are best-effort, by the community, for the community. So in practice you might well get support for a long time.

However it's unlikely that you'll find that the Neo4j developers releasing patches versions for historical versions, so beware.

Also you're on 1.9.1, which is quite old. I'd recommend moving to 1.9.6 when it becomes available shortly.

Many thanks Jim.
No I am using Neo4j Enterprise. I see that now Enterprise edition are free only for 30 day trial! So can I upgrade only with a commercial license? Why do you suggest me to move on 1.9.6 instead of 2.0 ? When will be available 1.9.6?

Thanks in advance.
Regards,
Rita

I have another question, can you give me a direct contact for questions about commercial license in Italy, please?

Hi Rita,

> No I am using Neo4j Enterprise. I see that now Enterprise edition are free only for 30 day trial! So can I upgrade only with a commercial license?

OK cool. Neo4j Enterprise has an open source license by default (AGPL, see: http://www.gnu.org/licenses/agpl-3.0.html) which you're implicitly using at the moment.

If you don't want to use the open source license, then you should contact Neo Technology for a commercial license. As you point out, Neo4j Enterprise has a free 30 day commercial license which is intended for those folks who want to get started/evaluate Neo4j but cannot use the open source license.

> Why do you suggest me to move on 1.9.6 instead of 2.0 ? When will be available 1.9.6?

I suggest 1.9.6 for your situation because you're already on 1.9.1 and so the upgrade is completely compatible. Moving to 2.0, the APIs are different and you *might* have to change your code, depending on which functionality you currently use.

Hope that helps,

Jim
