String freeze: May 31
Localization freeze: June 28
Strings count: 89 new strings

Some of the main features in v5.0 are:
- New menu
- Custom home page
- Improved Sync errors
- Improved bookmarks management.

Note: we also tried a new thing, "translating" automatically some specific IDs that don't actually require translation.
For example (French): https://github.com/mozilla-l10n/firefoxios-l10n/commit/e6bfe410aacf6f92d7db6dd3038dc35805649163
Let us know if you spot any issue with this.

Testing
Automated screenshots for testing 5.0 features will be made available. To find your locale's screenshots, visit http://people.mozilla.org/~sarentz/fxios/screenshots/ . Nightly l10n builds
will soon be available here: https://people.mozilla.org/iosbuilds/l10n.html

Sign-offs for shipping locales
Our sign-off experiment last cycle was a success, so we'll be continuing to take the top repo commit on the day of l10n freeze this cycle for the release candidate build.
So on June 28th we'll ship the last commit of each locale that meets the following criteria:
- 100% complete translation with no remaining errors on the web dashboard, https://l10n.mozilla-community.org/~flod/webstatus/?product=firefox-ios
- Have no visible l10n errors upon review of the locale's screenshots (e.g., significant truncation, text overflow, encoding, etc.) besides what may have already been reported to the iOS team to correct.

Sign-offs for new locales
We will continue to work through Bugzilla for processing new locale sign-offs. The criteria for shipping these locales will be the same as the criteria mentioned above.

Finding issues
If you find any issues and file bugs, please CC :flod and :delphine to them (there's no tracking bug at the moment).

As always, if you have any questions or comments, please let us know.
Thank you for your hard work on v5.0 iOS!

Cheers
Delphine

I find outdated screenshots and nightlies (both over a month old) too unreliable and problematic to test localization. I'm wondering if there are updates planned for TestFlights beta version or maybe there is some other way (other than building yourself)?

Hi,

A question concerning the strings „Otherwise show in the toolbar“ and
„Show Homepage Icon In Menu“. They seem to be connected in some way, but
we were not sure, which way.

I don’t know if this will be visible on the screenshots, but we were
wondering what exactly „otherwise“ means here. Could you please give a
bit of context and details on how these strings appear?

Thanks and best regards,

Michael

Hi Michael,

Ignore the fact that everything in the screenshot below is mirrored, i'm
testing RTL.

https://www.dropbox.com/s/5hvs0wpoh8f2nc5/Screenshot%202016-06-01%2015.10.57.png?dl=0

So this is for a settings page for "Homepage". The string that you are
referring to is the subtitle of

"Show Homepage Icon In Menu"

If you turn that option off, the Homepage button is shown in the toolbar
instead. That is what the label explains. (This is an option that is
disabled by default in China, enabled in the rest of the world)

Hi Stefan,

Thanks, that helps. We are now using a translation that reads „[homepage
icon] is otherwise displayed in the toolbar“, which I think is what the
string means.

Thanks,

We are going to do a fresh L10N build today. And will also look at running
the screenshots again.

Name looked like Password Manager :D

So, its wallet, and what "pass" means? (adding pass to Passbook).

Also in wikipedia and apple's website it says that Passbook is renamed
to Wallet, when it will be changed in Firefox for iOS?

Hi Emin,
Good catch on Passbook-Wallet, I'm asking developers to figure out if we
should use Wallet instead.

For 'pass', it's translated as 'ticket' in Italian (like flight ticket,
concert ticket, etc.), not sure if the Turkish version of the Help page
can give you some ideas
https://support.apple.com/tr-tr/HT204003

I also need to confess my total lack of experience with iOS devices.

OK, we need to update it :-\
https://developer.apple.com/wallet/Add-to-Apple-Wallet-Guidelines.pdf

I'm going to re-extract the strings in a few minutes.

"Pass" remains the same, "Passcode" becomes "Wallet".

If iOS is localized in your language, check the page at
https://support.apple.com/tr-tr/HT204003 to use a consistent
terminology, or consult the Apple Glossaries for iOS[1].

Quick update: it looks like there are more strings that need to land in
v5.x, including at this point the fix for Passbook -> Wallet.

We'll give you more info as soon as we can.

Sorry for the noise and the confusion.

Hi,
The repository has been updated: 1 string changed for Passbook->Wallet, and
there are also 9 new strings.

In total there are currently 22 strings added after the string freeze was
announced.

Ok not sure if people are going to get this message a 3rd time or not...
Sorry for the noise if it's the case, but seems like google groups is playing tricks on me.

Soooo:
June 18th is right around the corner, which means l10n deadline for strings. Please remember to finish pending work by then

Screenshots: should be coming soon. You will get an update here once they are available. In the meantime, the most important is to finish remaining work and test on iOS device if you have one.

Sorry for any inconvenience. And as always thanks for your hard work!

cheers

Hello everyone,

Seems like my message yesterday didn't go through. And if it did, well, sorry for the noise ;)

June 28th is right around the corner, and that means l10n deadline for iOS. Please remember to update your strings by then.

We are still waiting on screenshots so that you can test your work. You will get an update here once we get them. In the meantime, the most important thing is to update your work and possibly test it on a iOS device if you have one.

Sorry for the inconvenience! we're working on all this ;)

thanks!
