I addressed a mail to you through The Editor Tharakai and he has asked me to communicate with you directly and given your email ID and hence this mail for you.

I am in search of an Old Tamil Book written by Arumuga Naiyinar Pillai and published in the year 1920.

(நற்குடி வேளாளர் வரலாறு. ஆறுமுக நாயினார். மதராஸ் பதிப்பகம். 1920ம் ஆண்டு)

I have tried in many Libraries in Tamilnadu including Kannimara and almost all Universities in Tamilnadu, and all the universities in the UK, Sri Lanka, Malaysia and Germany and the Afro Asian Study Center (UK) without any success. 

One copy of which was available at the Oxford University in London (according to their Records) but some one has taken it and not returned it for the last 10 years and unable to trace the person from the address given in the Records.

One More Copy was available at the ஆவணகாப்பகம் in Egmore Chennai and this copy was sent to அண்ணா நூற்றாண்டு நூலகம் at Koratoorpuram in Chennai during the period of the former Chief Minister Mr. Karunanidhi. Nobody knows the fate of this book at present.

There is also a reference from the Oxford University in the UK stating a copy of this book being available at the MDT Hindu College in Thirunelveli, but the college says that they dont have this book in their Library.

I have been informed by Saraswathy Mahal in Thanjavur, Tamil University in Thanjavur, Vengadasamy Nattar College in Thanjavur and Tamil Sangam in Madurai that they do not have this Book with them.

Why this book is of great value? 

It has names of 201 Pandiya Kings who ruled from Thenmadurai, Kabadapuram. Koodal Madurai and Thenkasimadurai and no other known literature has so many names of Pandiya Kings. 

இது பாண்டியர் வரலாற்றைக் கூறும் நூலாகும்.

மொத்தத்தில் இது 201 பேரை பாண்டிய மன்னர்களாக குறிப்பிடுகிறது.

நற்குடி வேளாளர் வரலாறு என்பது பாண்டியர் வரலாற்றைக் கூறும் குடிமரபு நூலாகும். இந்நூல், நற்குடி வேளாளர்களால் பாடப்பட்ட பழங்கால நாட்டுப்புறப்பாடல்களாகும். இந்தப் பாடல்கள் முழுமையாகக் கிடைக்கவில்லையென்றாலும் கிடைத்த 1035 பாடல்களைக் கொண்டு ஆறுமுக நயினார் அவர்கள், 1920ஆம் ஆண்டு மதுரையில் அச்சிட்டு இந்நூலை வெளியிட்டார். இதன் படி, பாண்டியரின் ஐந்து பிரிவில் இருங்கோவேள் பிரிவினர் வழி வந்தவர்கள் தொடர்ந்து பட்டம் கட்டிக்கொள்வதைக் கைவிடவில்லை. இதன் விதம் கி.பி. 1944 இல் இயற்கை எய்திய போற்றியடியா இருங்கோவேள் 201 ஆவது பாண்டிய மன்னர் மரபின் பட்டம் கொண்டிருந்தார் என அந்நூல் கூறுகிறது. மொத்தத்தில் இது 201 பேரை பாண்டிய மன்னர்களாகக் குறிப்பிடுகிறது.  

தங்களின் மேலான தேடுதலுக்கு கீழ்கானும் தகவல்கள் துணை நிற்கும் என்று நம்புகிறேன்.

1. நற்குடி வேளாளர் வரலாறு என்ற பழைய புத்தகம் 1920 ஆம் ஆண்டு வெளி இடப்பட்ட புத்தகம்.சிவகளை சிவத்திரு ச. பாலசுப்பிரமணிய பிள்ளை அவர்கள் சேகரித்த ஏட்டுப் பிரதிகளை ஆதாரமாகக் கொண்டு திருநெல்வேலி பேட்டை திருவாளர் த.ஆறுமுக நயினார் பிள்ளை அவர்களால் 1035 பாடல்களில் இயற்றப் பட்ட செய்யுள் நூல்.

இப் புத்தகம் 1920 ஆம் ஆண்டு மதுரையில் மனோன்மணி விலாசம் அச்சகத்தில் அச்சிடப் பட்டது .இந்நூல் 1035 விருத்தப் பாக்களை உடையது.

 

நற்குடிவேளாளர் வரலாறு நெடிய பாண்டியர்கள் வரலாற்றை மீட்டமைப்பதற்கு ஓரளவு துணை செய்கிறது. இந்நூலில் ஆரியப் படை கடந்த நெடுஞ்செழியனை 87 ஆவது பாண்டியனாகவும், வெற்றிவேள்செழியனை 88 ஆவது பாண்டியனாகவும் குறித்திருப்பது ஏனைய சேர, சோழ வரலாற்றுக் காலத்தோடு நன்கு பொருந்தி வருகிறது. 

இந்நூலில் கண்ட குறிப்புகளின் படி  விடுபட்ட பாண்டியன் பெயர்களையும் சேர்த்தால் கி.மு. 500 முதல் கி.பி. 500 வரை 1000 ஆண்டுக் கால பாண்டியர்கள் தலைமுறைகளைக் கண்டறிய முடியும்.

இந்த நூலின் உரைநடை வடிவம் ஒன்று (239 பக்கங்கள்) எஸ் .என். அடைக்கலம் பிள்ளையால் எழுதப் பட்டு, மதுரையில் ராமச்சந்திர விலாசம் அச்சகத்தில் இராமசாமிக் கோனாரால் 1922 ஆம் ஆண்டு வெளி இடப்பட்டது.கிட்டத்தட்ட 93 ஆண்டுகளுக்கு முந்தைய நூல்.

இந்த செய்யுள் நூலுக்கு வித்துவான் திரு ர.வையாபுரி , M.A ., அவர்கள் ( பேராசிரியர் ,தவத்திரு சாந்தலிங்கர் தமிழ்க் கல்லூரி ,பேரூர்,கோவை-10 ) உரை நடைச் சுருக்கம் எழுதி உள்ளார்.

2. அடுத்த புத்தகம் சுமார் 35 ஆண்டுகளுக்கு முன் மத்திய சங்கத்தால் வெளி இடப் பட்ட புத்தகம். இது அக்டோபர் 1980 ல் வெளி இடப் பட்டது.
