Tree Crickets

Last year, I noted that I first heard them on July 23.  So far, no crickets.  Maybe because of the hot weather?

Hi Michel,

I was going to post something about this soon because last night (August 2) we noticed our first chirping tree cricket in our backyard for the season. Lisa heard some trilling tree crickets today at Bald Hill Farm.

Usually I hear the first last week of July or sometimes a little sooner. I think it has more to do with a cold and wet spring. I wonder ifhey probably hatched late, and since they have to go through 5 instars, the earlier parts of their life cycles were probably delayed.
