start.microprofile.io still down

Hi

Last night I was trying to update the MicroProfile IntelliJ plugin and couldn't test it because https://start.microprofile.io/ was down for maintenance. I checked today and seems it's still down. Does anyone know when it will be back again?

Hi Ehsan,

The cloud account that was used to host this site was no longer available. We discussed our technical calls a few times and were unable to find alternative sponsors. We will have to disable this starter until there is an alternative solution. Also this starter needs to be updated as well. It was brought up that the runtimes supporting MP normally have their own starters. Below are the minutes from the April 7th MP Technical call.

• MP starter site down (no associated account any more): proposal to sunset it as it is not maintained and many runtimes have their own starters.

• Need to find a company to host the starter.

Thanks for the quick response. I was not involved in the group for a while and missed that. So, should we remove the plugin from the IntelliJ Marketplace then? Because it's not working and will probably get negative reviews.

I thought about this a bit further. Instead of relying on a public-accessed GUI, it might be more sustainable if we go with an archetype approach by just using CLI and even fire up a local GUI instead of relying on a hosted web. We can discuss this more at today's meeting. Alternatively, please comment on this thread.

Yes, that could be an option. The current version relies on start.microprofile.io REST API, so it will always get the latest MicroProfile. This allowed us not to update the plugin in the last few years, but it still works with the latest MP version, because it fetches everything from the API and renders the UI based on that.

We can of course rely on the local instance or archetypes, but then we should consider updating the plugin more frequently to ensure it supports recent MP versions.
