Dear Experts,

Kindly refer the attached job of eco coil of Boiler in tube to tube joint welding application.

During GTAW welding with ER70S-2 grade filler wire we have noticed liquid type impurities on weld bead.

Why such type of defects are coming?

Is it product defect or welding process defect?

Please support & share your views to move in right direction.

Thanks & Best regards

PT

By the way you describe it may be that this is due to the contribution they are using, in many cases the contributions bring a copper coating, as this helps the electrical conductivity, it is very common to see this situation in fillet welds made with the GMAW process, the welding surface like waste oil or honey appreciated, "drops" are seen along the steak, but the picture that you are sending is not very clear, has no HD.
Regards.

This kind of problem comes due to copper coating of filler wire. Copper coating is provided to protect filler fire from corrosion. As copper has lower melting temperature due to which it sodifies last. This is not a severe defect. Just remove it after completion of joint.

While using ER 70 S-2, first clean the filler wire with Emery paper and then do the welding. Good interpass cleaning is required . If backside accessible then that also needs cleaning.

The impurities / slag may be due to the chemical composition of filler wire and might show as defect in RT film if not cleaned

Other alternative is to change to    ER 70S- 6  filler wire.

PT,

Please check whether you are using any Oil during expansion prior to welding. Proper drying and cleaning is required.

Dear sir,

Copper coating used in GMAW for electrical conduction purpose. Wire is directly connected to power source as it is used like electrode. But in GTAW it is for protective coating ( to prevent from rust or moisture). It is used as filler wire which is provided additionally.

Thanks & regards,
Chirag sandhane
