Dear experts,
I have a prequalifed WPS for A36 material butt joint up to 32 mm thickness. Preheat mentioned there as 0deg.up to 20mm thickness and 20 to 32mm thickness is 20 deg.
But as per AWS D1.1 table 3.2, there is no preheat mentioned for base metal A36.

So what is the reference for 20 deg. Preheat for thickness 20 to 32 mm.
Please give your feedback.

it based which code u reffer for wps . i have same doubt during last wps preparation but my AI inspector sr told me please go through only code you reffer every code have diff conditions u cant mix all tham.

From qualified WPS deceasing preheat temperature 15 deg. then required new qualification of WPS.

Refer Table No. 4.9 Base metal

 Metal thickness  up to 20mm, over 20-65, 38-65, over -65 & Pre Heating temp. 10deg, 50, 80, 110 degrees

sr i preffer asme sec 8 div 1 edition 2017 non mandatory appendix R ie preheating for what temp required fòr preheating.
asme sec 9 edition 2017 gives only ranges % decrease nd increase on the basis of rule for essential , non essenēoeoeròĺ
