Hello Mappers,

We’re delighted to have such passionate mappers who bring in continuous ideas to improve Google Map Maker. We’ve incorporated some of your valuable suggestions into today’s release. Please post your thoughts and suggestions on this thread.

The following issues reported through forum and issue tracker are now resolved:

Let’s take a detailed look:

Introducing “Ferry Boat Line” as a new line feature

A long time request, we’ve now added Ferry Boat Line as a new line category. You will now be able to map ferry routes. Read more about Ferry Boat Lines.

Along with this, we’ve also deprecated High Tension Line from the line categories as these do not render on the maps and are not being used in any other Google products. As a result of this change, all features that were created historically will be archived in the Map Maker database.


Preventing names marked both as Primary and Obscure

As per naming guidelines, a name that is marked as Primary (the most commonly recognized name) should not also be marked as Obscure (an uncommonly used or historic name). This validation is now implemented within Map Maker and mappers will no longer be able to mark a name as both Primary and Obscure. Instead, you will get the following error message:

Removed “website” field from certain categories

We’ve removed the website field from the following categories:

• Tarmac
• Playground
• Golf Course - Golf Shop
• Campgrounds - Camping Site
• Campgrounds - Barbecue Pit
• Campgrounds - Cooking Area
• Campgrounds - Camping Pit
• Campgrounds - Litter Receptacle
• Campgrounds - Locker Area

Complete HTTPS support in Map Maker

Map Maker now completely supports HTTPS to help you safeguard your privacy while mapping. Previously some features such as Streetview, pending places, and pending roads were not working on HTTPS. We’ve now enabled it for all Map Maker features.


Fixed the Phone number error message

Over past few days we have received feedback from some mappers on getting the error: "Unable to parse phone number", while editing some places.

We’ve now fixed this for you.


All features in Ukrainian interface are now editable

It was reported that some of our mappers were facing problem while editing features in the Ukrainian interface.

We’re glad to inform you that this issue has now been fixed and editing features should work fine now.


Few more useful changes:

• Roads and Railways now have intersections.
• Traffic lights sign  has been added as one an options while editing traffic signs.

• Added a new option to the list of denial reasons when reviewing: Wrong information.
