Brad,

I don't know about everybody else's, but on mine, this is what worked:

On the SD Card connector on the lid of the electronics enclosure, the end of the 6-wire single-row connector with the colored wire (and on mine, a ridge) goes on the end closer to the electronics fan --- toward the left side of the printer.

On the RAMBo board end, the marked side of the 8-pin double-row connector faces the left side of the printer, toward the Z-axis stepper.

This latter seemed odd to me, because pin 1 of the SPI connector is toward the front right of the printer, IIRC.  But the mark DOES face the "SPI1" silkscreen right "above" the header, which is WAY easier to see than the exceedingly tiny "1" next to pin 1.  My "cable" is just a collection of very fine wires soldered and covered with goop.  It's not rainbow 0.05" ribbon cable like in the pictures on the "electronics" instruction pages.  In the attached photo, the marked side of the 8-pin connector is on the left.  You can just barely make out the tine "1" below the bottom right pin.

Sorry, I don't (yet) have a good photo of the SD Card connector end of the cable.

Hope this helps you find it.

Dale

Hi,

Does anyone know the polarity on the SD card cable from the RAMBo board to the reader?

Thanks!

Thanks for the info, Dale.

I'll compare once I get to the office in the AM.

Thanks again!

Hey Brad!   Did you get it working?   I actually had to try all four ways of plugging it in before I got it right, so I don't think you'll damage the card if you got it wrong -- at least if you don't leave it on too long.  And if you let the magic smoke out, I'm sure any of us would be glad to PM you the samples.

Hi Dale,

I haven't tried yet.  I have had a backlog of parts that have waited on the M2 to arrive, and they should be caught up by tomorrow.  It's been PC printing for the last 2 days.

I should be able to try it tomorrow.  Thanks again for the info and help!

Getting this message as well.

RECEIVED: echo:SD init fail

SD init fail

Powered down everything and reversed cable on board, then SD shield and same message Then no response from steppers, Rambo receiving commands and LED's blinking but steppers wouldn't move. Thought I had fried the board. Powered everything down and walked away at that point, *&$%. Came back 20 minutes later and powered everything up, steppers working. Dont know what happend but wont print from SD if trying to get it to work would even possably fry the board.

Brad, Earsmith and anyone else having issues with the SD reader and/or cable - if you can confirm that, while looking at the RAMBo from the front, USB side, the marks on both parts of the SD card are on the left, we can swap out your parts.  Email me directly, I may have you try one last thing, but otherwise we'll probably just swap your SD cable, reader and card, just to make sure you've got a fully working set.

Sorry for the trouble and confusion.  Does anyone have a recommendation/request for clarifying the SD connection information on the wiki?

Josh,

On mine, the mark on the side of the 8-pin RAMBo board connector was visible just fine, but I had no idea which way to face it.  I could see the pin "1" mark silk-screen on the board, so I figured it was marked on the "pin 1 side" of the cable -- which is incorrect.  And the "mark" on the wire for the SD card end was barely noticeable.  As I said above, I had to try all four combinations before I hit the right one.  It's also not clear if the "notch" on the pin-1 end of the six-pin connector for the SD card is intended or just an artifact of cutting apart a longer SIP connector.

Perhaps the marks made on the connectors (with a silver marker) should say "L" on one side and "R" on the other of the 8-wire connector, and "L" on one end (both sides) and "R" on the other end (both sides) of the SD Card connector, and tell everyone those are "facing printer left" and "facing printer right".

Would be best if there were can't-plug-in-the-wrong-way connectors, of course, but that takes re-design.

Hi Josh,

I'm good on the hardware, just need to re-attach the cable to the reader and didn't want to fry anything.  I could use a a copy of the CAD file for the electronics box to re-cut some acrylic.  On my first print, the table went to the rear, caught the ferrite on the Dell supply power cable and broke the box apart.  Not a big deal, I have a laser cutter here if the file is available.

Thanks!
Brad

https://github.com/MakerGear/M2 has the printed parts (some deprecated - I need to update them) and the laser cut parts (up to date).  You could also take the .dxfs and extrude them to 3mm in openscad or other 3D software, and print them - I generated .stls recently for another customer, and could send them to you if you'd like.

Thanks for the info Josh it confirms that I had it setup/ installed correctly from the beginning. Puzzleish but understandable. If it is correct the LED  light is yellow on the shield.. My problem was the SD card was not in  the slot. Leveled bed just now. Setting up The z axis end stop bolt has a little too much play in it and had made leveling a little challenging. So I just wrapped the bolt with teflon thread tape. Problem solved.

Hey Josh,

One last question...  Do you know the mfg and part number of the connector used on the larger extruder fan?

Thanks!
