Hi,

I'm sorry for posting such a silly question but I feel pretty lost about how this is supposed to work.

I am building the HeatCore for a MakerGear Prusa Mendel. I finished the step of adding the ceramic around the core to cover the wires and let it sit overnight ... only that I couldn't get back to it on the next day or the following one. Only after about two weeks I was able to resume my building.

My question is: is there any harm done by having left the ceramic sitting there for two weeks before running the heat curing process?
I am doing the heat curing now by applying 12v to the heat core for about 2 minutes every 10 minutes, but I don't see any of the foaming or bubbling that should happen, nor notice any change of color in the ceramic.

Have I ruined the process? Is there anything I could do to get back on track?

Thanks for any guidance,
Julian

Thanks for the quick answer!

Is it possible that because letting it sit so long it now takes many many heat passes until cured? I've done it like 8 times already and the color is still much darker than the original ceramic on the core.
Otherwise, how to know when it's done curing?

Julian, all of the changes you mentioned have to do with baking the water content out of the ceramic.  Letting it sit for two weeks actually got you quite far along that process - if you haven't noticed any steam or smoke, and no cracking or other physical issues, you can consider the heatcore baked in correctly.

As for the color difference, that's most likely a small batch variability, and should be fine.

Ah, this makes a lot of sense and makes me comfortable moving on to the next step.

Thank you very much, Joshua
