Indianapolis Educator interested in touring/meeting

I will be in Louisville on September 19 and would love to meet an educator willing to give me a tour of LVL1 and talk about some Makerspace ideas.

I read about LVL1 in Make Magazine recently.  I am the Director for Innovative Teaching at a K-8 school in Indianapolis. My school is in the early stages of planning/building a Makerspace and since I was going to be in Louisville for another event, I thought I'd see if I could visit LVL1 and learn some things.

This is the right mailing list.  If no one else is available I may be able to give a tour.  The best people to "talk shop" with would be Danielle Blank, Joseph Clagg, and Chris Cprek I believe.

I'm glad you're interested in us!  :)    

This is what I would recommend:  

1) Come to a Tuesday night meeting.  They are every Tuesday at 8:00 and they are open to the general public.  Food is typically there, and a tour is given to new folk.  You'll get the opportunity to talk with a large variety of people who hang out at the space, and it's a great way to experience the culture.  

2) Read our wiki (wiki.lvl1.org) & join (or at least peruse) the LVL1 Google Group.  Both are accessible from our main page.

And as for learning specific things, a few LVL1 founding members (Brian Harper & Mark Endicott) actually teach at a local middle/high school where there is a Makerspace, and they would probably be great to talk shop with.  They've been developing/prototyping programs for the space and watching the kids take ownership of it...I'm extraordinarily jealous.  :o)

Sept 19th is a Friday. Lvl1 holds movie night on Fridays, so it is actually a good time to catch people at the space. I have no idea who will be there, but there is almost always someone willing to give a tour. However, as Danielle mentioned, your ideal introduction to the space would be at the weekly meeting held on Tues nights at 8.

Good point, I had completely overlooked that a date was mentioned.  Always reading too fast...  ;D

Friday will always have people there.  I will try to be there, but I'm not sure how late I can stay because I have a program to run the next day.  

Anyway, Troy, I'd be happy to talk with you when you come around, if you let me know when you want to stop by.
