Hi folks,

We've just put up a new support video that demonstrates how to tighten the pulleys on the X and Y axes. Find it here:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=76XaGlyG0Z0

We also added a new Rep 2 extruder problems troubleshooting guide. You can find that on the Rep 2 Troubleshooting page here:

Maybe this will help get this bot working.  Have not had a successful print since I bought the bot on any prints under .2mm

Hi,

Trying to follow the instructions for tightening y-axis pulleys.
Unlike in the video, the hex screw isn't directly accessible (see photo).

Wondering if I should go ahead and disassemble the motor's side face to get to the screw.

Is your belt vertical? It looks from the picture like the pulley is a bit too far in on the axle, so the belt is angled /

Anyway, don't be scared to disassemble it, there isn't anything you can break. The black part that is bolted to the frame and the motor is just a mount.

When I got my printer I struggled with axis drift for a while, and it did not go away until I took everything apart and re-tightened. In my case the pulley was loose, but not loose enough that it would slip all the time, just under certain motor torque/acceleration conditions.

Mine is the same, only accessible if I remove the motor and take it off it's mount.

Melody:

Thanks for the heads up on the new video..

Any chance you could put links to the the youtube videos on the support page of the MakerBot
web site under the 'Support Videos' heading?

How often should this procedure be done, and what are the symptoms of needing to do it?

Tks~

The belt seems to be fairly vertical

I took it apart (which was a pain too) and tightened the y-axis screw - the results were rather surprising.

Im using this print aid to diagnose the issue: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:39430

first print showed some vertical stuttering, which I assumes was a y-axis issue (pic1)

after tightening the screw, the print completely smeared (pic2)

i guess I'll go back an loosen it...

if you know of any in-depth discussion about the issue, I'd appreciate the info.

Good to know Im not alone :)

perhaps a wrench with a more shallow elbow can reach in?

detaching the motor proved to be a pain bc the inside screw are really tough to reach

Ninal,

I eventually discovered that the issue wasnt the pulleys at all. In fact the problem was with the extruder.

I ended up printing a replacement for that bit that helps push the plastic through
http://www.thingiverse.com/make:25073 or http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:36482

If you don't mind paying for shipping, you can get a free upgrade from MBI

Once I had that in place - never tightened the axis again~

Also, this thread by whpthomas is invaluable when you are starting off

I know this is an older discussion, but I'm hoping a little bump can provide some help.  I'm very new to 3D printing and have had my Rep2 for about 6 months.  I've learned the maintenance, etc. and have been having some great success with prints.

Currently, I can't find any information on when (and how often) the X and Y axes pulleys should be tightened and have been having some print issues lately when I've been running the bed leveling procedure.  The prints look like the ones pashakun posted in this thread.  Any advice/suggestions would be appreciated.
