This may be a double thread about the Purgatory Cart; sorry if I didn't see something Brian or Rosa already may have started tonight.

Last June we discussed the idea of having a Purgatory Cart for items that may have been abandoned at MAG Lab. We arrived at a workable, but not completed, policy. Since the situation has come up again recently, we're posting two items for comment by members:

1. General Meeting Minutes excerpt, 6/25/19, for information about what the members already agreed on.
2. Draft Purgatory Cart Sign, 10/2/19, for comments and suggested edits so we have a more formal policy going forward.

Please take a look and add your two cents. We'll discuss your input at our next General Meeting (Tues, 10/8).

I think we need to have the distinction between the material handling of the following items unless we want to handle them all the same way:
* Consumables
* Tools / Projects / Parts

I would argue we may need more categories or at least to consider different treatment:

Consumables
Parts and Misc
Tools
Equipment
Furnishings
Projects
On extended Loan
Scrap materials (is this a consumable?)

I think some of this stuff supercedes purg cart stuff and may be covered in bylaws in regards to:

tools on loan/extended loan
project stuffs
tools
equipment
furnishings

the idea of purg is to prevent folks from tossing important stuff without it giving it an opportunity to be caught.

i think we have a couple copies of these things floating around the forum.  we should probably consolidate the threads

threads i see with replica forms of some sort:
  • "Member project policy"
  • "Purgatory Cart Procedures"
  • "Preliminary Procedure Regarding the Purgatory Cart"

Thanks, Trent.

Per last week's general meeting, I am consolidating the documents and continuing to use this pinned thread, as it was the first one posted.
  • The doc in Brian's post was identical to the one I posted. That makes it easier.
  • We have two things to consider:
    • Purgatory Cart procedures (protocol for getting rid of stuff). I am annotating it with member comments, will post ASAP, and we'll discuss it at tonight's general meeting.
    • Project space guidelines. I will annotate it with member comments, post ASAP, and as we said last week, we'll discuss it at a later general meeting.

Here's the draft. I think I got everyone's comments in. We can decide which to keep or toss or change.

As it turns out, there are three things to consider, and they're all in the attached draft:
  • Cleanup (purgatory cart)
  • Project (time and space)
  • MAGlab use (consumables, permissions)
Maybe we can get it all done tonight if we make this the focus, see if Ben needs help with workshop, and start Friendsgiving potluck planning.

Looking Forward,
Betsy

At tonight's general meeting, we consolidated the annotated version I posted earlier today. The result is attached.

Thanks for input from Rosa, Brandon, Trent, Russ, Brian, and Ben!
