At the end of my rope for machinekit on this one, so any pointers would be appreciated.

I have a BBB + CRAMPS that I'd like to use to control my mill, remotely.  Via both X forwarding and VNC, I can't get a reliable display.

Does anyone have a similar setup which they have working?

What's frustrating is that this working previously (though not reliably), on the same SW+HW combo and same .ini file.

Long version with more error details:

For example:, 'ssh -Y machi...@beaglebone.local', followed by 'machinekit', brings up the .ini selector screen.  I can select an option, then it shows Machinekit loading icon, then the expected Axis screen, which minimizes, pops back up, and then disappears.  At one point in the past I was able to see the screen load, and then interact with it; the problem before wasn't repeatable, but now it just doesn't work.  Apparently XQuartz can have issues; this is what I see with XQuartz 2.7.8, and with 2.7.11 I don't even get to the .ini selector screen.

If I run 'vncserver' and connect to the VNC screen from the Mac, the final Axis loading screen fails, and just shows nothing.

With various combos of XQuartz, I've see all a variety of GLX errors, shown below.

Using VNCServer, I see this one, error 148:

emcTaskInit: using builtin interpreter

X Error of failed request:  GLXBadRenderRequest

Major opcode of failed request:  148 (GLX)

Minor opcode of failed request:  1 (X_GLXRender)

Serial number of failed request:  4284

Current serial number in output stream:  4284

Shutting down and cleaning up Machinekit...

exiting HAL component Therm

Cleanup done

Seen with X

emcTaskInit: using builtin interpreter

libGL error: No matching fbConfigs or visuals found

libGL error: failed to load driver: swrast

X Error of failed request:  BadValue (integer parameter out of range for operation)

Major opcode of failed request:  149 (GLX)

Minor opcode of failed request:  3 (X_GLXCreateContext)

  Value in failed request:  0x0

Serial number of failed request:  684

Current serial number in output stream:  685

Upon close with X:

X Error of failed request:  GLXBadContextTag

Major opcode of failed request:  150 (GLX)

Minor opcode of failed request:  103 (X_GLXDeleteLists)

Serial number of failed request:  43107

Current serial number in output stream:  43108

I've tried to run 'glxinfo' to see some more details but can't find the package from my BBB.

Am using a fresh SD card image from a month ago.

Brandon,

Did you ever solve this issue? I am seeing the same thing sporadically. Sometimes it will run fine and other times the axis window will just go away when it is starting up.
I am using "ssh -X ..." from my Mac. I have three different BBBs, one with a Xylotex-DB25, one with a CRAMPS and another with a BeBoPr-Bridge.
I have XQuartz on my mac.

An aside I noticed recently that scp no longer works from the BBB back to the Mac after I connect to an ssh session, but it was working a few days ago.

Hi Alan,

I haven't found a workaround.  For me, this is basic enough functionality (that seemed broken for multiple years) that I've given up on MK.  If someone were to have a 'known good' VNC setup, I'd happily switch back.

Brandon,

Last night (9/12/2018) I built a new uSD for my Xylotex cape using Robert Nelson's 8-30-2018 image.
It seems to start up fine. I have quit machinekit and restarted it in the same session with no problems.
