The problem that m facing is vey unique. On my ubuntu 12.04 LTS , the LAN of my room fails to connect but when i connect it someone's else's room, it works fine. Although my lan works fine on my windows. Pls tell me some solutions as this acts as a deterrent for using ubuntu

That does sound like a unique problem. Try creating a special network profile with DHCP enabled (search Network Connections in Dash) and try connecting to it, when you connect to LAN in your room. Otherwise, it might be a hardware issue. Does windows connect fine in your room?

tried that, but to no avail. Yes, windows connects to lan in my room easily without any problem.

I am not sure if this might help or not but can you check the output for 'rfkill list all'. Most probably it won't point
to the problem because you can connect from somebody else's room.
