Hi everybody,

I just start to use littlechef to provision nodes on aws.  Everything looks cool except one thing: when provision an Amazon Linux AMI, it complains that it is unsupported distro.  Is there a plan to support that image?  Or is there any reason why it is not supported?

Thanks,
Chengkai

Not sure if you've tried knife-solo but looks like we have Amazon Linux in our list. The code is also quite similar if you wanted to add amazon linux support to littlechef.

Hi Chengkai,

the new omnibus method, which installs Chef-supported versions should
work with Amazon AMIs.

It is described here:
https://github.com/tobami/littlechef#omnibus-method

Hopefully it works for you!

Cheers,
Miquel

I switch to use Amazon Linux AMI, and use the omnibus method as describe in the document, and this is what I got,

--------------------
zsh 3674  (git)-[master]-% fix node:jenkins deploy_chef:method=omnibus,version=11.12
Currently supported distros are: Debian, Ubuntu, RHEL (CentOS, RHEL, SL), Gentoo, Arch Linux or FreeBSD

Fatal error: Unsupported distro 'Amazon Linux AMI release 2014.09
Kernel \r on an \m'

Aborting.
Disconnecting from 54.67.86.245... done.

------------------

However, if I use centos AMI, the problem is gone.

Right. That is a bug, thanks for giving the feedback. The recent
omnibus refactor should fix that. It should land next week in a
release.

Cheers,
Miquel
