We've got 500 A31-based tablets which we're testing Firefox OS on worldwide.
Unfortunately we've found that, when in fastboot mode, Macs are unable to access the device with the fastboot client. (The device *is* visible to the Mac system while in Fastboot mode, but the fastboot client is unable to see it.) This means that Mac users are not able to natively update the OS on the device.
When the device is booted normally, ADB can be accessed from the Mac.

Windows and Linux have no problem accessing it in fastboot.

Is this a known issue with the default A31 bootloader? Are there any suggested fixes?
Thanks!

We (the linux-sunxi community) have limited experience and knowledge of
the Allwinner proprietary bootloaders and tools. Work here is mostly
focused on code which is open-source and developed openly.

Out of curiosity, what Linux kernel do you use for those tablets with Firefox OS?

Simos,

Yes with a patchset from: https://github.com/flatfish-fox/flatfish-kernel

Actually the readme in that repo points people to http://linux-sunxi.org/A31
and then to follow the link to the rhombus repo

Thanks Maks.

How should we change the wording at http://linux-sunxi.org/A31 regarding the section Community Support?

Currently it is

"This SoC is currently not supported by the community. The kernel and U-Boot used by the users are those from the original Allwinner's SDK. The patches that add support for this SoC either for sunxi-3.4 or the mainline kernel are welcome."

Should there be an addition like "There is a patchset at https://github.com/flatfish-fox/flatfish-kernel that adds support for Firefox OS."

Simos

Hi Simos,

Good question - I really dont know. I'm just a new-comer to the
linux-sunxi community and I'm only a vounteer contributor to Mozillas
tablet program which has seeded this device with different peopel all
over the world for testing FirefoxOS on it.

I guess I should also hope on the wiki and create a new page for it.

Also you might have spotted that they tablet vendor has also provided
a very small patchset for the allwinner u-boot fork they have used:
https://github.com/flatfish-fox/flatfish-uboot

so the vendor has been very good so far about supporting us and doing
so out in the open via the above repos and the moz bugzilla.

I'd actually really appreciate any suggestions from the community here
on how we could work more together and help this device be better
supported within the community.
Also on a personal A31 note I've got a A31 hummingbird
http://linux-sunxi.org/Hummingbird_A31 as well, so I'm keen to try
working on getting the SPL going on A31 though its slow going as I'm
not very experienced in working with u-boot.

Maks.
