Jamboree On The Air (JOTA) - 14-16 October

Hi everyone,

I am a scout leader at 35th Willesden scout group based in the St Raphael’s estate, just down the road from the hackspace.

I was just wondering if there was any interest from your group in organising something for JOTA (Jamboree On The Air - https://www.jotajoti.info/jota) in October? The idea is that the scouts use amateur radio to connect with other scouts around the world.

I saw on your wiki that you are hoping to encourage more active licensing of atypical amateur radio enthusiasts, so hopefully this could spark an interest in some of our young people!

What did you have in mind?  What sort of space do you have (indoors and out)?

Would you be able to attend our next meeting (2pm on Saturday 2nd) to see what we have and discuss it further?

Sorry for the late reply!

All I had in mind was setting up one or two stations and letting the scouts have a go at contacting/communicating with someone (under supervision). 

We meet at St Patrick’s Church Hall (///leans.yards.export) on Friday evening, 6.30 to 8pm. I’d have to enquire about availability for Saturday or Sunday, but the hall itself is reasonably sized and there is plenty of outdoor space in the car park. Also happy to bring them to your place if that’s any easier!

I have a GMDSS GOC so I can cover a bit of theory with them beforehand but obviously no equipment or license for amateur radio. 

Unfortunately I’m camping next weekend otherwise I would’ve loved to come along, if you want to call or meet another time let me know, or maybe I could come to October’s meeting but that might be leaving it to late.
